In the stuffy room, Harry, Ron, and Hermione told Hagrid about Snape.

But Hagrid had clearly come prepared this time.

No matter what The Trio said, Hagrid simply refused to believe them.

Suddenly, they heard a series of scratching sounds coming from inside the iron cauldron.

"It's Norbert!" Hagrid excitedly tossed aside his plate, pulled on a pair of thick cotton gloves, and carefully placed a pale yellow egg as large as a rugby ball on the table.

The moment the dragon egg touched the wooden table, it suddenly cracked open. A tiny dragon covered in slime pecked through the shell and crawled out, wobbling as it tried to stand.

The little dragon was not actually very pretty. It looked like a crumpled black umbrella, its spiky wings looking especially enormous compared to its thin, black body.

It also had a long, oversized nose with white nostrils, horn-like bumps on its head, and bulging orange-red eyes.

It was hard to imagine that this little thing would grow into a majestic fire-breathing dragon.

The baby dragon sneezed, sending a few sparks flying from its nose.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Hagrid murmured. He reached out and stroked the little dragon's head. The dragon immediately bit his finger, exposing its sharp little teeth.

"Good heavens, look! It recognizes its mummy!" Hagrid said.

"Hagrid," Hermione said, "just how fast does a Norwegian Ridgeback grow?"

Hagrid was about to answer when his face suddenly turned deathly pale.

He sprang up and rushed to the window.

"What's wrong?" Harry asked.

"Someone was peeking through a gap in the curtains just now. It was a boy... he's running back toward the school," Hagrid
