Background
Kong Yang was sent by the Kongyu Clan to the Human Race to learn from them. While Kong Yin initially considered the arrangement little more than hostage diplomacy, Kong Yang insisted that the purpose was genuine learning—not merely of Human Race martial arts, technology, or mecha, but of the inheritance that produced them. He particularly values the cultural transmission of ideals such as Li Qingshan's “chivalry and courage.” 381
Before his change in outlook, Kong Yang pursued the top of the War Merit Board through the Shouyang Alliance. He assembled roughly 500 squads and relied on the large number of allied-race geniuses at Fortress 13 to accumulate war merits over decades. 379 378 He also maintained a deferential relationship with Vice Minister Ye Hao, who treated him as a political piece and pushed him to compete against Fei Xingye and Zhong Jun. 16 389
Appearance
Kong Yang is a handsome young man who favors deliberately old-fashioned clothing and commonly carries both a folding fan and yellowed ancient books. He considers traditional dress and literature part of a valuable inherited culture rather than outdated clutter. 378 382
- Usually seen reading an ancient book while waiting at rifts. 381
- Often opens or waves a folding fan while speaking or formulating plans. 379 382
- Has a 72-foot Dharma Form. 385
Personality
Kong Yang is articulate, well-read, and acutely conscious of status. His early conduct combines ambition with calculation: he treats strength as the foundation of all cooperation and initially sees Li Qingshan's apparent self-sacrifice as a useful means to advance the Shouyang Alliance. 382 379
His repeated reflections on prejudice are sincere but initially incomplete. Although he condemns discrimination against allied races, he still exploits the alliance's members and pursues war merits through others' risk. Li Qingshan's exposure of this contradiction forces him to recognize that he has not truly understood the Human Race inheritance he admired. 388
Later, Kong Yang becomes more restrained and principled. He rejects Ye Hao's control, accepts responsibility for his past actions, and increasingly acts from loyalty to comrades rather than personal advancement. 417 420
Abilities & Skills
Seventh-Order Dharma Form
Kong Yang is a seventh-order cultivator with a 72-foot Dharma Form. He can remain stable in dangerous rift environments and confront sixth-order threats, though he recognizes the limits of his own strength against Li Qingshan and higher-level enemies. 385 410
- Possesses strong perception; Li Qingshan specifically relied on Kong Yang noticing the fabricated traces of a Great Sun Dharma Form. 386
- Was unable to replicate Li Qingshan's ability to destroy a planet in under a minute while concealing his true strength. 389
- Chose not to attack Li Qingshan after realizing that even a joint assault with Kong Yin and the Niu Brothers offered no reliable chance of victory. 389
Nine Refinements True Tribulation Solidification Sutra
Kong Yang cultivated the Nine Refinements True Tribulation Solidification Sutra to the completion of its eighth layer. This left him qualified to endure an Eighth Grade Thunder Pool baptism. 410
- He had cultivated the technique for more than eighty years by the time Li Qingshan arrived at Fortress 13. 410
- Li Qingshan later withdrew from the War Merit Board to give Kong Yang the opportunity to exchange for a Seventh Grade Thunder Pool. 420
Leadership and Intelligence Work
Kong Yang is an experienced organizer and information handler. As Shouyang Alliance leader, he coordinated hundreds of rift-exploration squads; under Li Qingshan, he handled intelligence, communications, personnel access, and logistical matters for the Demon Subjugation Division. 379 465 486
- Organized the Shouyang Alliance into approximately 500 squads of around ten members each. 379
- Provided Li Qingshan with information on the Land of Return and the involvement of Kong Mingze, his clan ancestor. 652
- Delivered intelligence on suspected Evil God sites, smuggling routes, and Coiling Dragon Auction House activity. 477 493
- Served as Li Qingshan's gatekeeper, messenger, and representative in dealings with other directors. 465 469
Equipment
- Folding fan — His habitual accessory and a frequent prop during negotiations and planning. 378 382
- Ancient books — Used for study, reflection, and learning about Human Race culture and history. 381 389
- Communicator and projector — Used to receive orders, share intelligence, and present reports to Li Qingshan. 403 543
Relationships
- Li Qingshan — Initially regarded Li as a potentially useful but expendable scout for the Shouyang Alliance. After Li's identity is exposed, Kong Yang chooses not to attack him, later returns to save him, and ultimately becomes his trusted subordinate and secretary. 379 388 400 420
- Kong Yin — His younger sister. They frequently argue over Li Qingshan, Human Race culture, and the risks taken by the Shouyang Alliance. 381 382 388
- Kong Bin / Kong Xun — His younger brother. Ye Hao temporarily renamed Kong Bin “Kong Xun”; after Kong Bin's later enlightenment, the name Kong Bin was restored. 417 539
- Niu He, Niu Chuan, and Niu Hai — Niumo Clan prodigies who served in Kong Yang's core Shouyang Alliance squad. 379
- Che Yufei — A fellow alien genius and political ally. The two discussed being targeted by the military and later fought in the same wider war effort. 387 417
- Ye Hao — Initially Kong Yang's influential patron within the Ministry of Education. Ye Hao later attempted to repatriate him and deny him access to the Thunder Pool because of his race. 389 420
- Kong Mingze — Kong Yang's ancestor, an alien elder stationed in the Land of Return who pledged support to the arriving Chief. 652
Story Role
Shouyang Alliance Leader
At Fortress 13, Kong Yang leads the Shouyang Alliance and recruits Li Qingshan into his squad. He publicly praises Li's courage, but privately believes that absolute strength can force a Human Race member to keep “paving the way” for the alliance. 379 382
Li Qingshan exploits this trust by disguising his own actions as Fei Xingye's Great Sun Dharma Form and using Kong Yang's squads to locate rifts and dangerous targets. Kong Yang repeatedly interprets Li's conduct as proof of “chivalry and courage,” helping spread the image that Li wants him to believe. 381 386
Exposure and Reckoning
When Li Qingshan's true identity is revealed, Kong Yang is humiliated and initially prepares to attack him with Kong Yin and the Niu Brothers. He ultimately orders them to withdraw their Dharma Forms, recognizing that Li deliberately gave him the choice and that fighting would be futile. 388 389
Li Qingshan then challenges Kong Yang's belief that he is qualified to compete with true Human Race geniuses while relying on others to accumulate war merits. The confrontation leaves Kong Yang confronting the gap between admiring Human Race inheritance and actually living by it. 388
Comrade of Li Qingshan
Kong Yang later returns through a rift to save Li Qingshan despite the danger, demonstrating a decisive break from his earlier self-interest. He remains concerned when Li stays behind to face the Blood Rot Clan's Elder Council and Grand Elder alone. 400 416
During the Heaven's Pride Tournament's resumption, Kong Yang refuses to blame the Human Race as a whole for Ye Hao's actions and continues participating in the war. He later thanks Li Qingshan for forgiving his past conduct and accepts Li's support in entering the Demon Subjugation Division. 418 420
Demon Subjugation Division Service
After joining Li Qingshan's organization, Kong Yang becomes a dependable secretary and intelligence operative. He manages reports, coordinates with the Reconnaissance Office's divisions, delivers messages to officials, and supports Li's investigations into Evil God cultists and the Coiling Dragon Auction House. 431 465 477
A millennium later, he calmly briefs Gu Feng on Li Qingshan's accomplishments and expresses absolute confidence that Li's arrangements will account for any crisis. 571
Notable Quotes

“Coming to the Human Race, I need to learn more than just the Martial Dao; more importantly, how to be a ‘person’.” 420
