Background / History

An Ran was originally an Old Earth player and a Level 30 Sorcerer specializing in demon arts. During her first real-world use of Lynx Transformation, her human memories and consciousness were overwhelmed by predatory instincts. She spent four days hiding around Tiger Hill, hunting pigeons and squirrels, before Xiao Jie reminded her of her name, the game, and the Player Management Act. The reminders allowed her to regain her human form and identity 87.

The incident taught her that shapeshifting could alter a user’s mind as well as body. Her master had warned her that the first transformation was especially dangerous, but she had underestimated the risk. Afterward, she became more cautious and eventually mastered her lynx form well enough to use it without immediately losing control 87 128.

She invited Xiao Jie into the Jiangbei City player group, where she served as an administrator under the in-game name An Ran Yi Meng. She also offered protection from low-ranking assassins as repayment for helping her recover her identity 87 88.

After the deaths and reincarnation of Xiao Jie’s companions, An Ran was reborn in Ginkgo Village as a Level 1 Shepherdess. Although she began again from the lowest level, she retained enough of her previous memories and experience to regain Lynx Transformation early and unlock Sorcerer immediately at Level 10 553 568 569.

Rather than accept one of the available immortals as her master, An Ran chose to follow Xiao Jie’s personally verified Demon Refiner–Demon Immortal route. He provided her with the Demon Refining Gourd, cultivation guidance, demon cores, and transformation manuals to support this path 559 560 561.

Although she can be playful and provocative, she takes strength seriously. When Xiao Jie suggests that her appearance could be changed through future transformations, she dismisses the concern: beauty is temporary, while strength is lasting 374. Her practical outlook also appears in her refusal to spend scarce resources on a fish transformation purely for recreation 272.

Her previous loss of control has made her sensitive to the danger of power changing one’s mind. She understands Xiao Jie’s fear of losing humanity through cultivation because both have experienced instincts and supernatural power threatening their sense of self 302.
