Under the blood-red light of that artificial sun, Nelson's flying hair blazed like fire, and the beads of sweat at his temples shone like brilliant gems, set into that resolute, starkly defined face like a sculpture from Ancient Greece. The thick darkness in the depths of his eyes had been washed clean by the original blue, making one unable not to think of a storm-tossed sea, and the calm peace after the tempest had passed.
The old wizard recognized the Elder Wood wand clenched tightly in his left hand. Its unique material inevitably called to mind the ancient legend that had been passed among wizards for a thousand years. His cloudy pupils suddenly constricted. Could the vanished Elder Wand finally be about to stir up a reign of blood and terror among wizards again after more than a century of silence?
He had no time to think too much. Elite Aurors were closing in from both sides, layer upon layer of barriers distorting the light by which Nelson and he appeared in each other's eyes, as if they were looking into a funhouse mirror. His heart stopped for half a beat because of Nelson's face, magnified and exaggerated to the extreme.
Nelson's body arched in midair like a drawn bow. Having charged here through the flicker of Apparition, he could no longer stop his momentum. Seeing that he was about to crash into the Shield Charm ahead, he raised the Black walnut wood wand in his right hand high. The fragments of Mayfly shattered in the melee were drawn by the wand and gathered toward him. At that moment, its brilliance even eclipsed the fame of the Elder Wand, making everyone's gaze focus on it despite themselves.
Countless tiny fragments peeled away from sewage and scorched mud, sweeping through this
