Background / History

Clan Origins and Early Companionship

The Kirin Clan suffered heavy losses in an ancient battle against the Demon Race. Its survivors subsequently lived in seclusion, scattered across the world and difficult to find. Li Changsheng later identifies Buzhou Mountain as the clan’s birthplace; the Kirin Beast insists that its growing familiarity with the mountain comes from having personally visited it, not merely hearing stories 590 748.

The Kirin Beast says it had no one to guide it from a young age. By Chapter 535, it has already been subdued by Li Changsheng’s abilities and begs to accompany him, promising obedience and fidelity. It wants to learn about the God Race and accepts his warning against betrayal. In the following chapter, it accompanies Li Changsheng and the Great Roc while disguised as Bixiao 535 536 605.

Chapter 580 presents another encounter in a dark forest: the initially wary Kirin Beast accepts Li Changsheng’s reassurance, rubs against his leg, and allows him to hold it. It agrees to remain with him as his Divine Pet. Soon afterward, it retrieves an item it had previously found and hidden beneath a hill, helping Li Changsheng recover it 580 583.

Conflict with the Demon Race

When Li Changsheng is poisoned, the Kirin Beast takes over the fight and reveals its enormous combat form. It drives two Demon Race opponents toward a cliff and explains that Kirin are their natural predators. Further clashes demonstrate its willingness to fight independently, although it initially avoids striking vital points 590 591 592.

Li Changsheng introduces it to Azure Dragon as a close friend. Their association later becomes explicitly master–disciple, with Li Changsheng seeking protection for both the Kirin Beast and its clan 595 604.

Protection and Freedom to Travel

Great Emperor Haotian agrees to protect the Kirin Beast and its clan on the condition that it conceal its identity and refrain from using its forbidden technique. An assailant subsequently attacks it, regarding it as a disaster. The Kirin Beast wins their witnessed duel by applying Li Changsheng’s method of studying an opponent’s weaknesses, and Haotian upholds his promise that it will not be troubled again 604 605.

News spreads that the Kirin Beast is no longer taboo and can travel freely. An old acquaintance, Red Kirin, then tries to force it to kill an injured captive. The Kirin Beast refuses and attempts to remove the victim, with Azure Dragon arriving to help. When the acquaintance’s motive is revealed as avoiding heavenly lightning, it rejects sacrificing another person’s life for that purpose 606 607.

Tongtian’s Challenges

The Kirin Beast initially hides its conflict with Tongtian because it does not want to trouble Li Changsheng or complicate his relationship with Hongjun. A portrait allows Li Changsheng to identify the opponent. The Kirin Beast defeats Tongtian in a rematch, but Tongtian threatens further revenge 626.

During their next confrontation, the Kirin Beast displays improved reactions and refuses to attack Tongtian while he is incapacitated. Tongtian escalates to using a Double-Sided Mirror and Seven-Colored Gourd to capture it. Recognizing the mirror’s soul-capturing danger, the Kirin Beast avoids looking at it; Li Changsheng intervenes and forbids Tongtian from approaching them again 627 628.

Seeking Jiutian

After discovering Li Changsheng weakened ahead of the Nine Heavens Tribulation, the Kirin Beast volunteers to help at any cost. Despite its master’s objections, it sets out for a snow mountain to find Jiutian, carrying a defensive treasure supplied by Daoist Yimei 659.

An old man saves it from a Snow Monster and later reveals himself as Jiutian. Moved by its sincerity, he agrees to help Li Changsheng and flies it back on his sword. The Kirin Beast returns with him within three days 660.

Tracking Missions and Injuries

The Kirin Beast assists Li Changsheng in pursuing a traitor, producing its childhood companion, the Tracking Butterfly. It later helps locate the East Sea Dragon King’s missing son, Taotie, and joins the search for the Dragon King’s stolen treasure 663 664 666 669.

During the treasure pursuit, it is attacked while preparing to administer Obedience Powder to controlled opponents. Although badly hurt, it protects the bottle. Li Changsheng recognizes that it had already weakened itself by transferring energy to the Tracking Butterfly. It nevertheless returns to help him capture their opponents 669 670.

When a controlled Taotie injures its legs, the Kirin Beast restrains him rather than blaming him, asking Li Changsheng to help. It subsequently remains behind to watch over Taotie while its master investigates 675 676.

Helping Little Stone

Concerned by Little Stone’s absence, the Kirin Beast searches for its friend and finds him weakened by qi deviation. It gives him medicine received from Li Changsheng and guides his breathing and concentration when he reacts painfully. It then challenges and defeats the person who injured him 679 680 681.

After both friends are exposed to poisonous smoke, the Kirin Beast conceals its own condition to avoid worrying Li Changsheng. Its master discovers the injury and attempts to detoxify it. The Kirin Beast eventually leads him to a culprit on Ghost Mountain, fights the man, and saves Li Changsheng from a subsequent sneak attack 682 683.

Later Expeditions

The Kirin Beast accompanies Li Changsheng and Kunpeng on another mission. A White Kirin’s friendly response to it helps turn an apparent confrontation into negotiations; both Kirin later join the battle against Ancient Divine Beasts 702 704 705.

It also undertakes encounters alongside Azure Bird, proposing that they fight a threatening Mo Beast one at a time to conserve strength. At Elephant Mountain, they capture and interrogate hostile creatures. The Kirin Beast defeats a Snake Spirit and spares its life after Azure Bird intervenes 756 761 762 765.

At Fuxi Palace, guards recognize the Kirin Beast, halt their attack, and bow respectfully. During the later confrontation with the Demon Race’s Saint Lord, Li Changsheng assigns it to capture traitors hiding inside a cave 768 770.
