The patrol car drove into the district they were responsible for. This was downtown Los Angeles, but that did not mean it was prosperous. On the contrary, wealthy people lived in the hills or surrounding areas. Downtown was the most chaotic place, crawling with gang members.
Jiang Hao held a Los Angeles map booklet issued by the police department, carefully memorizing the streets and roads while Jerry chattered away beside him.
"Our patrol route covers Fifth Street, Crocker District, Seventh Street District, Julian District, Ninth Street District, and other places. Of course, we're not the only car. There are plenty of other guys."
"Luckily, we aren't responsible for the 18th Street District. Hahaha."
Jerry burst out laughing after saying that. Anyone who did not get the joke would have no idea what was funny, but Jiang Hao did. The 18th Street District was home to the largest Mexican gang in all of Los Angeles, infamous for its brutality. The public safety there was utterly terrible, and even patrol officers were unwilling to go in.
In his previous world, Jiang Hao had first met Jessica, the Invisible Woman, in the 18th Street District.
Jerry continued rambling. "The districts we cover aren't safe either, especially at night. There'll be lots of tents along the streets, packed with homeless people, drug addicts, and abandoned elderly people."
"No ordinary person would dare walk around these districts at night. That'd just be asking for trouble. Even if they were lucky enough not to run into robbers, the homeless and addicts would swarm them for money. Giving too much or too little is both dangerous. There's a saying here: they'll kill for ten US Dollars, because their own lives aren't worth ten US Dollars."
