Everyone arrived at a small courtyard southeast of the Dai Family residence. The little courtyard was practically a small temple. Pushing open its doors, Jiang Hao found many statues inside—Daoist deities as well as Buddhist bodhisattvas.
Jiang Hao examined them with the City God's divine power and found that not a single statue in the room possessed any divinity. In other words, Steward Dai's worship was useless.
"Steward Dai, you have so many gods and bodhisattvas in your home. If something happens, which one do you plan to ask for help?" Jiang Hao asked.
Steward Dai froze. "Naturally, any of them can help."
"Hehe, worshipping too many gods is indeed a mistake. There are too many of them, too mixed together. It only shows that your heart is neither sincere nor devoted. And you think they will all come to help, but gods and bodhisattvas can pass the buck too. When the time comes, you push it to me, I push it to you—perhaps not a single one will help you." Jiang Hao said with a smile.
Steward Dai found that reasonable and looked somewhat alarmed.
"Then, Immortal Master Jiang, which deity do you think I should worship?" Steward Dai now held Jiang Hao in the highest regard.
"A local official is better than one from afar. Just worship Lord City God," Jiang Hao said.
Keep the benefits within the family. He was the Grand City God, perhaps even the only legitimate deity in this world. Naturally, he would have them worship the City God.
Steward Dai immediately nodded. "All right, all right. Tomorrow, I'll put away all the other statues. From now on, I'll worship only Lord City God's statue."
Jiang Hao made a circuit around the temple hall and spotted a statue in a shrine in the corner.
