Inside the Forbidden City.
Escorted by a group of eunuchs and palace maids, the Young Emperor passed through the lush and blossoming imperial garden and arrived at the City God Temple.
The City God Temple stood in the center of the imperial garden. It had originally been called the Qin'an Hall and had also been a place of worship. Now that the Young Emperor had taken Jiang Hao as his teacher, he naturally had to prepare a separate palace for his teacher. Thus, the other divine statues had been moved elsewhere, leaving only the City God statue behind.
After sending the eunuchs and palace maids away, the Young Emperor walked to the prayer cushion. He took three sticks of sandalwood incense from the incense box beside him, lit them, and placed them in the censer. Then he bowed respectfully. "Teacher, please begin the lesson."
The statue flashed, and a figure flew down from it, landing before the Young Emperor. The Young Emperor grinned at Jiang Hao. "Teacher, you're here. I wish I could possess divine powers like yours someday."
"Divine powers are merely techniques. What I hope you pursue is the Dao. Once your Dao is profound enough, you will naturally become a god," Jiang Hao said.
"How can I improve my cultivation?"
Jiang Hao smiled. "If you can bring merit to the people, you will naturally become a god. Everyone is born with their own responsibilities. You must shoulder the responsibility of being emperor."
The two entered the study beside them. Its furnishings were rather peculiar: a heated brick bed, prayer cushions, a low table, a tea-making set, dried fruits, and pastries. Yet there was not a single book. It did not resemble a study at all.
Jiang Hao had no intention of
