One day.
Fa Hai was traveling when he suddenly heard waves of ape cries and continuous wolf howls in the mountains.
"There's a disturbance of magical power. Demons!"
Fa Hai soared into the sky.
In a vast hollow amid the mountains, a pack of wolf demons and a troop of ape demons were locked in battle. No one knew what grudge lay between them, but the fighting was exceptionally brutal.
Fa Hai stood atop a mountain peak, quietly watching below without any intention of stopping them.
They were merely demons. It did not matter to him which side died.
At last,
the battle ended.
Fa Hai could tell that neither side intended to perish together. Both had suffered injuries and were preparing to withdraw.
Just then, Fa Hai descended from the peak and stood atop a tall pine tree.
Both groups of demons warily looked at Fa Hai, unsure what this monk intended to do.
Fa Hai looked over the two groups and coldly said, "You fiends spend your days slaughtering each other, your hearts full of violence. You will surely become a calamity someday, so today, I shall take you in."
As he spoke, he brought forth his kasaya. The Heavenly Dragon Kasaya suddenly expanded, covering the entire valley and leaving the demons nowhere to escape.
The demons knew they had encountered a mighty cultivator and were terribly frightened. The ape king shouted at Fa Hai, "Reverend, we have only cultivated in these mountains and have never gone out to cause trouble. You say we will become a calamity in the future, but that is an unfounded accusation."
"How can you guarantee that you will not commit evil in the future? That is why I will take you in now," Fa Hai said.
