Arriving in Tokyo
The woman showed only her profile as she carefully ironed clothes.
Jiang Hao held his breath and scanned the room again. He saw a wedding photo hanging on the wall. The woman in it was the same woman tidying the clothes, while the man was in his twenties and had a build similar to Jiang Hao's.
Jiang Hao slowly crouched down, circled halfway around the house, and reached the front yard. Plenty of clothes hung on the drying rack there, both men's and women's.
He hunched over and picked through them, taking a shirt and a pair of trousers before quickly changing. On the shoe rack beneath the porch were quite a few pairs of shoes. Jiang Hao chose a pair of leather shoes that fit perfectly.
Dressed in well-fitting clothes with over ten thousand yen in his pocket, Jiang Hao straightened up once he left the yard. He smoothed his hair and strode into the village. When he saw villagers passing by, he walked directly toward them without any hesitation.
Though some people gave him curious looks because they did not recognize him, Japanese people generally disliked meddling in other people's business. As long as he did not bother them, they would not take the initiative to speak to him.
Jiang Hao spotted the words Niijima Village on several signs. He guessed that was the name of the place. His Japanese was only so-so; he could make out the meaning of some words, but not all of them.
After walking another street, he saw a bus stop ahead, where several people were waiting. Jiang Hao stood behind the crowd as well. He had no idea where the bus was headed, but all he wanted was to get as far away from here as possible.
