As she ate the porridge Jiang Hao had cooked, Lara felt it was the most delicious thing in the world. Before long, she had finished every bit of the nutritious meal in the lunchbox.
"Can I have some more?" Lara asked a little embarrassedly.
"No problem. There's enough for both of us." Jiang Hao filled another lunchbox for Lara.
This time, Lara ate much more slowly. As she ate, she asked, "Have you found any trace of Professor Jones and the others?"
Jiang Hao shook his head. "No. This island is huge. I don't know where they might have been washed ashore, or whether they've already..."
Lara fell silent. Yesterday's storm had been too fierce. The expedition ship had broken apart, and even if they had made it onto lifeboats, there was no telling whether they had safely reached this island.
"Alright, don't think about that now. Your task is to recover as quickly as possible. Then we'll explore this island and see if we can find your father. Eat more—it'll help your injuries heal," Jiang Hao said.
Lara nodded and began eating heartily again.
After they finished eating, Jiang Hao helped Lara sort through her backpack. There were some clothes inside, all soaked through now. Jiang Hao hung them on branches outside. When Lara saw the waterlogged notebook, she sadly stroked its cover.
There was also a cellphone in the backpack. It had soaked in seawater all night and was completely ruined. Jiang Hao found a box of chocolate and said with a smile, "This is good stuff. It can keep us going for another couple of days."
Once the backpack was sorted, they kept the useful things and set the useless ones aside.
It was already evening. Though they had not done much, time seemed to have passed
