Why was Zhang Han called the last tomb guardian?
Not only because Zhang Han was now the general guarding the imperial mausoleum, but also because after uprisings broke out across the land, Zhang Han's fate came to represent Great Qin's final fate. Once Zhang Han was defeated, all of Great Qin completely crumbled.
The Second Emperor of Qin killed Meng Tian, Meng Yi, many military commanders, and many ministers. In the end, uprisings sprang up everywhere, leaving no one capable to use. Zhang Han was appointed Grand General, and that was the most glorious moment of his life.
Zhang Han was born into an aristocratic family and had studied military strategy since childhood. In his early years, he had followed Wang Jian in the war to destroy the Six States. After Chen Sheng and Wu Guang's uprising erupted, there were no great generals left in the court. Zhang Han was ordered to organize more than two hundred thousand Mount Li convicts. He swept through the rebels like a hot knife through butter, beating them until they threw away their helmets and armor. In the end, he even defeated Xiang Yu's uncle, Xiang Liang, causing Xiang Liang to die in battle.
But he was ultimately defeated by Xiang Yu. "Break the Cauldrons and Sink the Boats" was Xiang Yu's battle against Zhang Han and Wang Li's forces. Zhang Han eventually surrendered to Xiang Yu, only to later have his city flooded and breached by Han Xin in battle against Liu Bang's faction. In the end, Zhang Han drew his sword and slit his own throat.
