Having dealt with the immediate trouble and gained a brief respite, Morgan noticed that the pathfinder had not set off. Instead, he was crouching on the ground, fiddling with something. She walked over and could not help asking.
"Samael, what are you doing?"
"Testing a hypothesis..."
The ancient serpent smiled faintly and answered gently.
She had actually called him by name without thinking. It seemed that after everything they had experienced along the way, the distance between them had quietly shrunk considerably.
"A hypothesis?"
"Catch!"
Samael dug through the remains of the black monsters and casually tossed a pitch-black object to the sorceress behind him.
Morgan instinctively raised her hand and caught it, frowning as she examined it.
It was a hard black horn-like object shaped like a branch, still carrying residual heat. The naturally formed spiral patterns upon it held an ancient aura she found quite familiar.
But what it contained was the scent of death and ill omen...
In a daze, the resonance brought by Britain's blessing caused several vague images to surface in Morgan's mind.
"A fairy crest?"
Samael nodded lightly. He picked up a pinch of ash with his fingertips and gently rubbed it, letting it drift down before his eyes like fine sand. In the darkness, his slit pupils split into cross-shaped petals of light, his gaze deep and distant.
"If I'm not mistaken, they should be black dogs—a kind of fairy."
Black dogs, also known as "hellhounds," were a special kind of fairy found in Britain. Their scientific name was Barghest.
They often appeared as dogs with burning antennae and eyes, wrapped in chains, foretelling death in the cities.
Legend had it that when a heroic figure died, black dogs emerged from the shadows and roamed the streets in packs, falling into a frenzy
