"What a pair of beautiful legs." Watching Ada's back, Shen Fei muttered to himself. Ada was the character he remembered most vividly from the Resident Evil game series, and the main reason why was obvious to everyone.
Unfortunately, the current situation left Shen Fei with no energy to focus too much on Ada. When your life's on the line, who has time to admire a beauty? "Die under a peony, a ghost is also romantic"—that's just a line to sweet-talk women.
"Sigh." Ada's appearance also killed Shen Fei's interest in going to the police station. Up to now, although Shen Fei seemed to have made a lot of preparations, in reality he hadn't done anything at all. Everything was just in his head.
His age was a limitation, and on top of that, this was a city controlled by Umbrella Corporation. He had no way to make any moves in advance; he could only wait for the upheaval to come and adapt on the fly.
"Wesker, you bastard." Inside the underground research lab of the mansion, Chris and Jill stared at Wesker before them, their faces full of fury.
They never imagined it was all a conspiracy, and their own captain was one of the masterminds behind it.
Wesker was the captain of Alpha Team in STARS, a leader deeply respected by team members, including Chris, Jill, and even Rebecca.
But it was all an act Wesker had put on.
"You two are impressive. Let me have you test the power of this new bioweapon." Wesker said as he activated the device containing the Tyrant beside him.
This was the perfect moment to stop Wesker, but Chris and Jill still hesitated out of their former loyalty and didn't pull the trigger.
Pfft.
But the next moment, something happened that caught Chris and Jill off guard—the Tyrant directly impaled Wesker with its claw.
This scene left Chris and Jill completely stunned.
"Run." Chris snapped out of it quickly, firing at the Tyrant while dragging Jill toward the exit.
As the Tyrant chased Chris and Jill, the empty lab suddenly echoed with groans. Wesker, who should have been dead, stood up again.
"Looks like the plan succeeded, hm hm hm hm." Clenching his powerful fist, he took off his sunglasses, revealing blood-red eyes, and let out a triumphant laugh.
It had to be said, Wesker's success wasn't without reason. To fully integrate the virus and gain immense power, he had dared to stake his own life as a gamble.
By dying and coming back to life, he allowed himself to fully merge with the virus's power.
Even Shen Fei, with his Op-Op Fruit ability, wouldn't dare do that. One wrong move, and it would be real death.
But Wesker had won his bet.
"Spencer, I'm ready." Hearing the alarms blaring around him, Wesker moved instantly, appearing before the computer at the front of the lab at a speed that was shocking.
"Damn it." Seeing the "Access Denied" message on the screen and listening to the alarms closing in, Wesker had no choice but to leave the lab bitterly, escaping the mansion just before it exploded.
"Is something happening?" Watching a helicopter enter Raccoon City from the distance, Shen Fei muttered under his breath. He'd seen quite a few helicopters over the past few days.
"What did you say?" Inside the Police Chief's office, Chris angrily grabbed the chief by the neck and pinned him against the wall.
The reason was simple: after Chris and the others returned to the Raccoon City Police Department, they immediately found the chief and told him everything Umbrella had done. But the chief just said Chris was joking.
As for Chris's request to arrest all of Umbrella's high-ranking officials, the chief didn't even acknowledge it.
It wasn't just the chief—most of the police department didn't believe Chris either. A virus? Bioweapons? There was no way Umbrella would do something like that.
The chief demanded that Chris provide evidence to support his claims, which Chris couldn't do—all the evidence had already been destroyed.
Both the Training Facility location Rebecca had provided and the mansion site had been reduced to rubble.
Under these circumstances, Chris, Jill, and Rebecca—the last survivors of STARS—had no choice but to leave the police station. It was only because most of the officers spoke up for them that the chief didn't have the three arrested.
"How are you handling things? I told you to arrest them." After Chris and the others left the police station, the chief received a phone call.
"There was nothing I could do. If I'd forced the arrest, it would have raised suspicion among more officers." Police Chief Brian wiped the sweat from his forehead and spoke meekly.
"But don't worry, no one will believe what they said." Brian added.
"Hmph." The person on the other end snorted coldly and hung up.
"Sir, we've received intel—they've contacted the military." In a secret underground base on the outskirts of Raccoon City, inside a room filled with computers, someone suddenly called out.
"Damn it, we have to take them out. Deploy the special operations team. They must not survive." STARS was a unit formed by the US Federal government to counter the growing threat of terrorism and large-scale urban crime. Its members were mostly elite personnel from various departments.
For example, police, military, security companies, and so on.
Chris had once been an elite in the military, specifically the Air Force. Disillusioned with war, he left the military and joined STARS. Because of this, he still had connections in the military.
Since STARS' funding mainly came from corporate sponsorships, those companies had significant influence over the unit.
This was a world of capital. As long as you had enough capital, you could obtain corresponding power. It wasn't just STARS being influenced by corporations.
Even prisons in this country could be privately operated. With prisons overcrowded, early release of inmates was a normal occurrence.
Why could Stark keep his Iron Armor to himself? Because he was the chairman of Stark Group, one of the top-tier people in this country.
Similarly, as one of the world's leading corporations, Umbrella naturally had its own private security forces—two of them: UBCS and USS.
That is, the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service and the Umbrella Security Service.
In a capital-driven world, private security companies had sprung up as well. The most famous were Blackwater and Silver Sable.
Umbrella's private forces were composed of top-tier mercenaries hired from around the world. After training at Umbrella's facilities, only those who passed could officially join. Their strength was beyond question.
Umbrella's private forces operated similarly to STARS, organized into Alpha, Beta, and other teams, each made up of elites.
Because they stopped at nothing, they were even more elite than STARS.
"Yes, Beta Team will execute this mission immediately." Someone promptly went to issue the order.
