Background / History

Byakuya originated in a world undergoing a Spiritual Energy Revival, where supernatural abilities emerged and social order was reshaped. He accumulated powers over time before a conflict among top ability users shattered the World Barrier and carried him across worlds. Ryougi Shiki later identifies him as an Attendant—an exceptional survivor in whom the world has placed a major investment. 145

Upon arriving in the Previous Era of the Chivalry of a Failed Knight world, Byakuya awakened as a Blade Dancer. His ability, [Yin-Yang], separated Bronya from their shared soul and gave her an independent body; the two joined the Yakushi family under Yakushi Kiriko's care. 1

He subsequently moved through several worlds with Bronya, becoming involved in the Honkai conflict, the Matou family's reconstruction in Fuyuki, the Holy Grail War, and the incidents on String God Island. Byakuya is outwardly relaxed, teasing, and highly conscious of dramatic presentation; even while entering battle, he treats “looking cool” as a lifelong pursuit. 74 He can shift quickly into a grave, authoritative demeanor when advising others or confronting threats. 19 96

He is intensely protective of those he considers family or allies. This compassion drives him to intervene in tragedies involving Sakura, Fujino, and Kallen, but it is paired with ruthless treatment of people who threaten those under his protection. 96 119 123 124

Despite his overwhelming strength, Byakuya values personal effort over easy solutions. He declines the idea of using a wish for his own benefit and prefers to obtain strength through training, experience, and study. 145
