Background / History
Kushina is an orphan from the destroyed Land of Whirlpools. After arriving in Konoha, she was initially bullied, but eventually became notorious for overpowering others instead; her public fights earned her the name Red-Hot Chili Pepper 4 7.
She was selected as the next Nine-Tails Jinchūriki because of her unusual chakra and Uzumaki bloodline. Konoha paired Minato Namikaze with her on missions both as a companion and as a protector of the village’s Jinchūriki 7 61.
To resolve concerns over her political standing under Konoha’s changing Hokage administration, Kushina was formally adopted by Uzumaki Mito. The adoption made her Mito’s granddaughter, Tsunade’s adoptive sister, and the next head of the Uzumaki Clan; Minato was expected to marry into her family 153 158.
