"Why do they trust you so much? Is that general manager an idiot? He actually listens to you on every company decision!" Adams felt like every subordinate he had recruited was a pig.
"They're all quite nice people... but they seem to have mistaken me for your woman." Temelo smiled sweetly.
Adams widened his eyes. "You actually said that? Damn it, aren't you ruining my reputation?"
Temelo giggled. "I never said that. I just didn't explain it either."
Adams was speechless. He knew Temelo must have used clever wording, saying things that sounded ambiguous enough to make people misunderstand, thereby borrowing his name for her own purposes.
The thought of somehow gaining a lover out of nowhere made Adams so angry his head spun. He had even made up romantic histories for Brando. Good grief, rumors were already flying all over his own backyard.
"Damn it, we aren't even the same species! And you're my sister-in-law! Are those people idiots?" Adams held his head, looking at Temelo, who could not even jump high enough to reach his knee, and felt utterly wronged! Temelo raised her head and said, "My sister's man is my man! So what if we're different species? Don't you still have an Earthling body?"
Adams was so angry he nearly spat blood. That must have been the kind of thing she said that made people misunderstand.
He had been careless! He should have sent her back to Earth long ago! He had not expected this woman to be so capable. Now that Temelo had established herself, she really was no longer suited to being taken back to Earth. But arranging for her to go to another planet would not work either. Who knew what trouble she would stir up once she was out of his sight?
