Background
Qingyu grew up in Blackwood Village with her elder brother Lu Qingfeng and second brother Lu Qingshan. Though nearly twelve, she was thin, sun-darkened, and worked the family’s fields; her lively chatter and swagger sharply contrasted with the defeated villagers around her 1.
When Qingshan was taken by the Returning Truth Sect, Qingyu remained fiercely devoted to both brothers. She eagerly agreed to guard Lu Qingfeng while he cultivated in secret, hoping his strength would let them rescue Qingshan. Once told that girls could cultivate, she immediately demanded literacy lessons so she could begin learning meridians and acupoints 4 5.
She trusted Lu Qingfeng completely during the plan to ambush Wu Yuan and flee Blackwood Village. After reuniting with Qingshan and seeing the scars left by his abuse, Qingyu shared her brothers’ resolve to one day destroy the Returning Truth Sect 12 13.
Her poor Root Bone initially made progress difficult. Lu Qingfeng taught her literacy and cultivation fundamentals, then provided techniques, pills, artifacts, and increasingly dangerous training opportunities. At the Sunset Glow Sect, she became known as the “Qing Yu Immortal Maiden” while traveling the Juyun Mountain Range on her White Crane 15 105.
After her aptitude was raised from 1 to 4, Qingyu’s cultivation accelerated. Lu Qingfeng later sent her to train near the Crying Swamp, allowing her to gain real combat experience under the covert protection of Capitals Heavenly Ghost Generals 273 283.
Appearance
Qingyu was initially a small, weathered village girl with two yellow braids and a dark complexion from farm labor. As she matured, she became graceful and refined, often appearing in cyan or white robes with a sword at her side 1 4 239 523.
- In childhood, she carried farm buckets and dressed in coarse village clothing.
- She later became associated with her White Crane mount and the public image of an “Immortal Maiden” 105 194.
- Her later sword-cultivator bearing is described as heroic and reminiscent of a female sword immortal 523.
Personality
Qingyu is spirited, outspoken, and intensely affectionate toward her brothers. She teases Qingshan relentlessly, boasts about him when it suits her, and displays unquestioning faith in Lu Qingfeng’s ability to protect the family 1 12 105.
She is also emotional and protective. Qingshan’s injuries and scars provoke her hatred of the Returning Truth Sect, while Lu Qingfeng’s injuries reduce her to tears despite her usual dislike of crying 6 13 15.
As she grows older, Qingyu becomes more sociable and independent than Lu Qingfeng. She enjoys traveling, visiting markets and mortal cities, collecting spirit stones, and meeting people rather than remaining secluded on a mountain 105 202 203. Her confidence can become playful pride, but she responds well to Lu Qingfeng’s guidance and criticism 523.
