Background / History
Lu Qingshan grew up with his elder brother, Lu Qingfeng, and younger sister, Lu Qingyu, in the outermost houses of Blackwood Stockade, where their home would be the first exposed if beasts attacked. He was selected by the Return-to-Truth Sect and taken to Yellow Lingzhi Mountain, initially appearing to have gained a path toward immortality. 1
His selection instead made him a servant disciple. Though he was allowed to learn characters, meridian charts, the Return-to-Truth Method, and Raging Bull Fist, he was routinely starved and beaten by the sect’s servant managers. He secretly taught the methods he learned to Lu Qingfeng despite the risk that all three siblings could be executed for passing on sect teachings. 1
Over five months, Qingshan became increasingly thin and accumulated whip scars across his body. He concealed his suffering behind forced smiles, but kept a notebook recording every beating, insult, and deprivation he suffered; the servant steward Zhang Chong’s name appeared most frequently. 1 14 15
When inner disciple Wu Yuan chose Qingshan and several other servants for a trip across the Chengyang River, Qingshan and Qingfeng turned the assignment into an escape opportunity. Qingshan signaled his readiness by concealing his left arm behind his back, then endured Wu Yuan’s kick before Qingfeng killed the inner disciple. After escaping, Qingshan asked that the other servants not be spared, indicating that they had also harmed him. 11 12 13
The siblings fled by boat, survived the Chengyang River rapids, and hid on Nameless Cliff Mountain. Once Qingshan awoke and realized that he was no longer under the Return-to-Truth Sect’s control, he broke down in relief. His return to laughter around the siblings’ campfire marked the beginning of his recovery from the sect’s abuse. 14
Appearance
Qingshan was originally slender and became visibly thinner during his months as a Return-to-Truth Sect servant. His hair hung over the left side of his face to conceal an injury, while whip marks covered his torso. 1
- Slender build, though he grew sturdier after leaving the sect. 1 11
- Scarred left cheek, once hidden by his hair. 1
- Bore numerous old and fresh whip marks from his time as a servant disciple. 1
- Later traveled disguised as a black-robed cultivator wearing a bamboo hat. 383
Personality
Qingshan was initially timid and submissive under the Return-to-Truth Sect’s oppression, but he remained resilient enough to risk teaching cultivation methods to Lu Qingfeng and to preserve a written record of his abusers. 1 14
He is cautious by temperament. He worried about making enemies of both the Return-to-Truth Sect and Green Jade Sect, warned Lu Qingfeng that Kang Zizai’s banquet invitation could be a trap, and restrained himself from attacking Zhang Chong even when deliberately provoked. 21 30 44
Qingshan is strongly independent and dislikes living entirely in Lu Qingfeng’s shadow. He completed Sunset Glow Sect missions to earn his own resources and reputation, sought real combat experience, and later chose to travel beyond the Gathering Cloud Mountains rather than remain protected at home. 112 218 306
His independence does not outweigh his devotion to family. He fought Qu Han despite the overwhelming difference in cultivation to give Xu Mi and their son a chance to escape, and he later weighed the opportunity to join the Floating Mountain Sect against the safety of Xu Mi, Lu Changsheng, and Lu Jing. 431 585
Abilities & Skills
Luofu Sword Canon
Qingshan fused the Azure Origin Sword Art with the incomplete Luofu Sword Scripture through Deriving the Dharma, creating the Luofu Sword Canon. He enhanced it five times from Unorthodox Grade to Orthodox Grade and replaced the Azure Origin Sword Art with the new canon. 74
- Generates Luofu Sword Qi, a sword-energy technique available from the Embryonic Breath Realm onward. 111
- Retains the Luofu Heart Lamp, which can accelerate spiritual-energy refinement, condense True Essence, and attack opponents. 74
- Includes the Protective Sword Shield, Sword-Shadow Light-Splitting Art, and Great Geng Sword Formation. 74
- Its quality and Sword Qi allowed Qingshan to overwhelm ordinary Sunset Glow Sect arts despite his lower cultivation. 105 111
Swordsmanship and Combat Arts
Qingshan’s combat style emphasizes concentrated Sword Qi, swift movement, and control of the battlefield.
- Defeated True Qi Realm opponents at the second, fourth, seventh, and ninth layers during the Sunset Glow Sect competition while only at the third layer himself. 110
- Used an upgraded Wind-Control Technique to break defenses, create cutting wind currents, and sweep opponents from the platform. 110
- Employed Light-Splitting Shadow-Transforming Void Sword Condensation for sword escape and battlefield disruption. 127
- Used the Great Geng Sword Formation against Qu Han, supported by seven Spirit Void-level evil fiends. 431
- Possesses the Thirteen Ancient-Breaking Ultimate Swords and had refined the twelfth sword by the time Floating Mountain Sect noticed him. 583
Muye Sword Venerable’s Legacy
Qingshan obtained the inheritance of Muye Sword Venerable, also known as Zhou Muye, at Cloud Terrace Mountain. The legacy offers him a possible future connection to the ancient sword cultivator after ascension. 504
- The inheritance drew the attention of the Floating Mountain Sect, whose lost Ancient-Breaking Ultimate Sword techniques Qingshan practices. 583 584
- Guangling Nanshan recruited him into the Floating Mountain Sect rather than attempting to seize the inheritance by force. 585

- Muye Sword Venerable — Ancient sword cultivator whose inheritance Qingshan received at Cloud Terrace Mountain. 504
Major Arcs
Escape from the Return-to-Truth Sect
Qingshan’s selection by the Return-to-Truth Sect became years of servitude rather than a blessing. His secret cooperation with Lu Qingfeng enabled the siblings’ escape from Yellow Lingzhi Mountain and ended his confinement under the sect. 1 11 12
Sunset Glow Sect Tournament
As a third-layer True Qi Realm disciple, Qingshan became the competition’s dark horse by defeating far stronger opponents with Luofu Sword Qi, Wind-Control Technique, and superior footwork. He ultimately won first place, transforming his reputation from “Elder Lu Qingfeng’s younger brother” into that of a formidable cultivator in his own right. 110 111
Independent Journey
After reaching Foundation Nurturing and strength comparable to an ordinary Spirit Void cultivator, Qingshan chose to leave the Gathering Cloud Mountains and gain experience through travel. Lu Qingfeng supported the decision while directing him toward the relatively safer northern route along the Weeping Marsh. 306
Family and the Floating Mountain Sect
Qingshan later married Xu Mi and became father to Lu Changsheng and Lu Jing. After receiving Muye Sword Venerable’s inheritance, he faced scrutiny from the Floating Mountain Sect, but Guangling Nanshan chose diplomacy and offered him admission. Qingshan accepted after Lu Qingfeng promised to guide Changsheng personally. 431 585
