Background

Lu Qingshan grew up with Lu Qingfeng and Lu Qingyu in Blackwood Stockade under the shadow of the Return-to-Truth Sect. After being selected by the sect, he entered Huangzhi Mountain as a handyman disciple; his elder brother brought him rations every seven days. Though initially timid, Qingshan became sturdier and more self-assured during his months in the sect, regularly reporting its conditions to Qingfeng and seeking his advice. 1 11

His position remained exploitative. Chosen as a servant for inner disciple Wu Yuan’s herb-gathering expedition, Qingshan used the assignment as the siblings’ opportunity to escape. Wu Yuan severely injured him when the plan was exposed, but Qingshan endured the injury and insisted that the five servants who had previously bullied him not be left alive. 12 13

After the escape, Qingshan preserved a booklet documenting the abuse he had suffered under steward Zhang Chong and others. His hatred of the sect did not erase his restraint: when Zhang Chong deliberately provoked him in Miaoyin City, Qingshan refused to fight and compromise the siblings’ position. 15 44

Personality

Qingshan begins as reserved and lacking in agency, shaped by life as a servant disciple, but grows into a cautious and determined cultivator. He is capable of anger and decisive vengeance, yet he can suppress it when retaliation would be strategically harmful. 11 13 44

He strongly values independence. Rather than rely on Lu Qingfeng’s resources, he repeatedly undertakes Sunset Glow Sect missions to earn cultivation materials and step out of his elder brother’s shadow. 99 112

His ambition also has a practical side: as a founding patriarch, he devoted himself to making the Azure Origin Sword Sect the leading sect of Shangyang Kingdom. This commitment became excessive enough to slow his cultivation, forcing him to delegate its affairs before traveling onward. 75 76

Appearance

Qingshan was described as slender before entering the Return-to-Truth Sect, though noticeably sturdier after five months there. He later appeared in the white uniform of a Sunset Glow Sect disciple and eventually traveled disguised as a black-robed cultivator in a bamboo hat. 11 106 383
