Holding Back for a Big Chapter
Hold back a big chapter
at the same time.
Henry, whose car was wrecked by the Star Staff, was carrying his schoolbag and getting ready to go to school.
Walking into the study, I saw my father's wallet on the desk.
He glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then strode in, opened his father's wallet, and took out a few Franklins.
The maid walked to the door of the study and was slightly surprised to see this scene, but she did not make a sound.
Henry turned around and met the maid's gaze.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
After a few seconds of silence, Henry coughed awkwardly and said to the maid, "I'd like some eggs, okay? Hard-boiled ones. Go and boil a few for me."
The maid nodded, then turned and left with a somewhat strange expression.
Before he could even breathe a sigh of relief, his father's voice rang out from outside.
"Henry".
"Yes, Dad."
Henry quickly put the money in his pocket and tried his best to make his voice sound normal.
"Dad, what's wrong?"
He walked out of the study and headed in the direction from which his father's voice was coming.
Henry pushed open the door and walked into the second-floor reception room.
His father was wearing glasses and writing at his desk.
Henry's father, with his well-proportioned figure, neatly combed hair, and the air of a successful man, looked up at him with sharp eyes.
Henry, who had always been afraid of his father, asked somewhat nervously, "Dad, what's wrong?"
"Sit."
"But I'm going to be late."
"I said, sit down."
Henry's father's tone became more forceful.
"Yes, Father."
Henry dared not argue, and sat on the sofa in front of his father with his hands on his knees.
Henry's father put down his pen, set aside what he had written, and rested his chin on his hands, gazing at him intently.
"I still have some questions about what happened last night, Henry. Can you tell me if it was a girl who did it?"
"What?"
Henry paused for a moment, then quickly shook his head.
"No, I told you, Father, it was a boy, not a girl."
He didn't reveal that the other person was a girl, partly because he felt it was somewhat shameful that the person who had beaten him to a pulp was a girl.
On the other hand, he felt that if his father found out that the other party was a girl, it would be troublesome once the other party's identity was discovered.
He knew that although his father appeared gentle and refined, he was actually quite ruthless.
Although he was irresponsible at school, he never thought about dropping out or committing murder.
If things escalate and my father harms that girl, it will implicate both him and me, and I might really have to drop out of school.
"Henry, you're not a good liar, I know you, so..."
As he spoke, he stood up, straightened his clothes, and walked behind Henry on the sofa, his sharp eyes fixed on Henry's back.
"Tell me, son, did a girl beat you and your friends and wreck my car?"
Feeling the pressure from his father behind him, Henry's breathing became heavy.
"No, I'm sorry, Dad. I didn't see clearly at the time. If I had known, I wouldn't have hidden it from you. I didn't know who he was. Dad, could you... could you take me to school?"
Henry's father did not agree to his request, but instead went straight to the desk in front of him, sat down, and took off his glasses.
With a piercing gaze fixed on him, Henry's father asked, "Look me in the eyes and tell me, Henry, what am I thinking?"
Henry hesitated to meet his father's gaze. "I'm sorry, Dad, you know I don't like this. I don't like you looking at me like that."
"I'm making you look me in the eye and tell me what I'm thinking!"
The father's tone became more forceful.
He hoped to train his son in this way.
Henry's father, Henry I King, was the infamous Villain Brainwave.
Brainwaves, due to the overdevelopment of the hypothalamus, acquire super brainpower, including telepathy, Illusion Casting, Mind Control, and Mind Projection.
In addition, his extraordinary mental abilities also enabled him to fly.
As a superhuman with powerful Mind Control abilities, he can manipulate others' thoughts, create illusions, and even launch physical attacks through Brainwaves.
Specifically, he can not only invade the consciousness of others through Brainwaves, but also read memories, create hallucinations, or directly paralyze the opponent's actions.
He can also materialize his Mental Power into energy shockwaves, which have destroyed buildings or knocked enemies away with a single blow. The strength of his ability is related to his concentration and he needs to rely on Brainwave Amplifier to maintain stability.
More than a decade ago, he was one of the main culprits behind the downfall of the Justice Association of America, directly involved in the raid on the Justice Association headquarters, and killed the First Starman.
The villains who joined him included the sorcerer and the Icicle, among others.
However, at this point, Brainwave had gone into hiding and no longer participated in criminal activities. Instead, he focused his main energy on teaching and training his son's superpowers.
Unlike most villains, after starting a family, he focused his main energy on his son.
To his disappointment, his son did not seem to have inherited his superpowers and has not yet awakened any superpowers; instead, he is just like an ordinary person.
"Dad, can you take me there? Just to the bus stop is fine."
In the end, Henry did not respond to the brainwaves, but simply lowered his head and let his father take him to school.
He didn't like having superpowers like his father; being an ordinary person was actually quite nice.
You can bully your classmates as you please, without having to be talked about like a freak.
The Patrick family guys, although many people are afraid of them, some people also say behind their backs that they are freaks.
Brainwave looked at his son with disappointment and slowly said, "On my way to the hospital, I'll drop you off at school."
Early morning, Smawville Street.
The morning sunlight flowed like melting caramel down the Smawville Town Main Street.
Peter sat in the car, waiting for the red light, while fiddling with the coins in his pocket—a habit he had developed after transmigrating. Whenever the sense of incongruity from this strange world overwhelmed him, the cool touch of the metal confirmed his existence.
Although more than a decade has passed and this sense of unease has largely disappeared, the habit has not been broken.
The light turned green, Peter stepped on the gas and drove toward the school.
Today there's a meeting of the school school board member regarding budget planning, and as the chairman of the Smawville High School Chairman of the School Board, Peter naturally has to attend.
As Peter passed by Whitmore Florist, Peter noticed a girl behind the window: her black hair was casually tied up with a pencil, a few iris petals were stuck to her apron, and she was tiptoeing to reach the gardening shears on the top shelf.
Lana, who was busy working in the flower shop, saw Peter drive by and waved to him happily.
"Uncle Peter!"
Peter turned around, smiled at Lana, and waved in response.
Lana would occasionally come over to help out at the neighbor's flower shop.
After leaving the flower shop, Peter continued driving towards the school.
As I passed by a small alley, a scream shattered the morning's tranquility.
Courtney's mother, Barbara, is being cornered by two men wearing ski masks.
Her purse containing cash fell to the ground, and the coins rolled to the robber's feet.
"This is the money from the community donation box!"
Barbara took a few steps back and said nervously to the two robbers, "The church reconstruction fund... I think you'd better not touch it, or God will never forgive you."
The robber didn't care about that and approached her with a dagger.
"Damn it, they dare to steal even God's money!"
Upon seeing this, Peter sighed and stepped on the brakes to stop the car.
Although he usually doesn't like to meddle in other people's business, Peter naturally wouldn't do anything to spoil the mood when he saw the beautiful woman possibly dying.
As he reached the alley entrance, he bent down and picked up a 25-cent coin that had rolled towards him.
After straightening up, he glanced casually at the two robbers.
The taller robber had a slightly bent right knee, with an old meniscus injury; the shorter one held a knife in his left hand, with unhealed bite marks on his thumb.
They appear to be repeat offenders, and they were injured during a previous robbery.
"Whoosh!"
The coin whistled through the air and struck the tall man's Weizhong acupoint precisely behind his knee.
With a "thud," the tall man, unable to react in time, fell heavily to the ground.
"What's this?"
The shorter man saw his companion fall after being hit by a coin and looked at Peter with a shocked expression.
He turned the blade towards Peter, his New York accent tinged with South America rolled "r"s, his face contorted with terror, "Don't come any closer!"
"This is not a place for robbery."
As Peter spoke, he dodged the stab and pulled Barbara behind him.
As the ivy hanging from the eaves brushed past his nose, he grabbed a vine and flung it at the other person's wrist.
With a "thud," as the robber's dagger got stuck in the rattan fibers, Peter quickly moved closer and pressed a letter opener he'd grabbed from the car against the robber's carotid artery. "Don't move, or you'll be meeting your God."
The robbers didn't recognize Peter, but they knew they had met a tough guy.
He dropped the dagger in alarm.
"Please don't hurt me, sir. Please, let me go. This is my first time robbing someone."
This isn't the first time.
Peter shook his head and punched the other man in the face.
"Bang!"
The robber, who had been beaten unconscious, collapsed to the ground.
A few minutes later.
The sound of sirens grew louder as they approached.
Barbara picked up the scattered coins and thanked Peter gratefully, "Thank you, sir, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I might have really been in danger."
"You're welcome."
Peter waved his hand, preparing to leave. "Don't go to such secluded alleys next time. It's not safe here. Drug addicts and gang members often gather here."
"Thanks."
Seeing Peter about to leave, Barbara quickly stepped forward. "Sir, I'm Barbara, Barbara Dugan. My home is nearby. Would you mind coming to my house? I really need to thank you."
