Rayne spoke up in agreement, and a triumphant smile appeared at the corner of Driss's mouth.
Davenrach felt somewhat regretful. It seemed this young man would not be able to join the Demon Extermination Squad after all. However, since Rayne had agreed to it himself, Davenrach could hardly object. He could only say, "Pollock, take Rayne to the Demon Extermination Squad's armory. Let him choose whatever weapons and equipment he wants."
"Yes, Captain-General." Pollock looked helpless. "Rayne, follow me."
The two of them left the office and headed to the armory on the first floor.
Pollock reprimanded him unhappily, "Rayne, how could you agree to Driss's demand? He's a fourth-level Sword Mage, while you're only level one. How are you going to fight him? Winning or losing is secondary. Driss clearly has bad intentions. Aren't you afraid of getting hurt?"
"Don't worry, Captain. I can't say I'm certain to win, but I'm confident I can protect myself," Rayne said confidently.
Pollock, however, did not believe him, thinking Rayne was being too arrogant.
Driss was three whole levels above Rayne, spanning an entire tier!
When comparing the strength of Transcendents, within the same tier, many exceptionally talented people could challenge those above their level. But challenging someone of a higher tier was almost impossible. The gap in strength between different tiers was overwhelming, leaving no room for retaliation.
Moreover, Driss was no ordinary Transcendent.
Although he was only level four, Driss was a rising star of some renown in Longshande. Barely over thirty, he had advanced extremely quickly and was the strongest among the five captains. He was considered the top candidate to become the next captain-general.
Even Pollock did not dare claim he could protect himself against Driss.
