1564, Cage of a Trapped Beast (The Second Systems Army's Doomsday -7)

Mace Windu personally led a bomber formation in a vicious pounce toward the Destruction battleship. At the same time, other fighter formations launched by the Republic fleet flew in to provide cover, and both sides engaged in a frenzied firefight around the Destruction battleship.

The Destruction and its escorting Behemoth-class battlecruisers did not carry many fighters, but every one of them was the Confederacy of Independent Systems' latest Tri-fighter. With the Technological Alliance cutting production, the Confederacy of Independent Systems' stockpile of Tri-fighters was dwindling as well. Count Dooku was now considering importing unmanned fighters from the Duchy of Dawn.

The fighters of both sides swarmed around the warships like flies, moving so fast they were nearly impossible to track with the naked eye. All that could be seen were countless tiny laser beams and small but devastating airborne Proton Torpedoes continuously firing out, then exploding against the warships' Deflector Shields and sending ripples of energy spreading outward.

The Behemoth-class battlecruisers' close-in defenses were ferocious, rapidly laying down a barrage that sealed off the space around the ships. Other than ARC-170 heavy fighters, which could still rely on their Deflector Shields to charge in and drop bombs, V-19 Torrent light fighters could not even get close!

The Destruction battleship was even more terrifying. The dreadful firepower of its 500 twin medium Turbolaser turrets could engage both ships and fighters at once—one thousand gun barrels in total! Dedicated point-defense laser cannons protected the warship's vital areas, while Proton Torpedo launchers, ion cannons, tractor beams, and other weapons were all fully equipped.

The web of fire around the Destruction battleship was even more terrifying, almost without a single gap. Large Republic fighter formations charged in, only to be shot down
