Gerrard Peren's Rise
It was precisely because he had held the line on Faida Planet while also organizing the blockade zone from Kotaris to Genios Planet in the rear that Colonel Gerrard Peren had managed to withstand the Geth rampage, preventing those terrifying Mechanical Lifeforms from advancing into the heartlands of the Seventh Army and Ninth Army.
As a result, although the pressure on the Faida Planet defensive line was immense, the Geth rampage in other sectors was also alleviated.
It was clear that, in order to break through the defenses on Faida Planet, the Geth had pulled a large number of troops from other directions.
That was why Colonel Gerrard Peren earned the favor of Dunn Vesex, Governor of the Ninth Army. Under normal circumstances, a mere colonel, even one commanding substantial forces and guarding a vital position, would never have caught the attention of someone like Dunn Vesex.
Especially after the Galactic Empire was established, Dunn Vesex had leapt to become one of the Imperial military's most powerful figures with real authority, standing on equal footing with Wilhuff Tarkin and the mysterious Darth Vader. Although the Imperial military's reforms had not yet concluded, Dunn Vesex's current position was at least equivalent to that of Deputy Minister of Defense.
Not to mention that, beyond his political status, he also controlled an immensely powerful army. Calling him the King of the North would not have been an exaggeration.
In fact, the war on Faida Planet might originally have ended six months earlier. After their repeated attacks had failed to achieve results, the Geth had appeared to be adjusting their deployment and preparing to abandon that front.
But at that very moment, Palpatine announced that the Galactic Republic would be reorganized into the Galactic Empire, followed by military reforms and purges.
