Background / History

The Galactic Empire was created when Emperor Palpatine reorganized the Galactic Republic and compelled senators to swear allegiance to his new rule. The transition was legally framed as a reorganization rather than a revolution, allowing the Empire to retain many Republic-era decrees—especially Palpatine's own policies. 1750 1796

From its founding, the Empire faced rebellions, conspiracies, and continuing wars on several fronts. Conflict with the Trade Federation

Battle of Coruscant

The Battle of Coruscant inflicted catastrophic losses on both the Galactic Empire and the Fourth Empire. The Empire lost Palpatine, Coruscant descended into chaos, and the Fourth Empire was nevertheless forced to withdraw because it lacked the strength to conquer the Empire outright. 2926

Decline and Fragmentation

After Palpatine's death, Sate Pestage declared himself Emperor but could not secure the loyalty of major officials, military leaders, or regional powers.
