The commissioning of the Pursuer-class aircraft carrier and the Vindicator-class heavy cruiser was one of the Galactic Empire's attempts at exploring combined operations between different ship classes.
Unlike the original storyline, where the Galactic Empire fixated on building Imperial-class Star Destroyers while maintaining relatively few other vessels, Kuat Drive Yards' decline and the impact of the Duchy of Dawn's new naval tactics had now caused the Galactic Empire to place greater importance on other warships.
The Pursuer-class aircraft carrier was assembled and modified from the hull of a Hunter Class Battlecruiser. At 2,200 meters long, it had a broad, flattened hull. This warship had originally been designed as a carrier—not merely an aircraft carrier, since its English designation was also Carrier, but after examining the Pursuer's carrying configuration, it was more appropriate to call it a carrier because it transported far more than fighters. In addition to carrying 144 shipborne aircraft, it could transport 14,000 Marines and large numbers of ground armored units, along with enough supplies to last two years.
The Pursuer-class battlecruiser was initially classified as a Star Destroyer, not because its firepower was particularly strong. On the contrary, most of the Pursuer-class's weapons were intended only for self-defense, and it was equipped with the latest fire-control systems to counter fighter attacks. It was called a Star Destroyer because the fighters and ground forces it carried truly possessed the ability to directly suppress an entire planet.
