Just as his name suggested, he was a "lesser one."
Although the Geonosians were a hive species and possessed a degree of hive mind, or Gestalt consciousness, every individual retained considerable independence. In that sense, they were both like and unlike other intelligent species.
More precisely, the Geonosians were a "semi-insectoid species," or perhaps a "sub-insectoid species." Their basic social structure was a caste system, broadly divided into the overseer caste, noble caste, Warrior Caste, Engineer caste, service caste, laborer caste, farmer caste, the lowest slave caste, and a special Undead Caste.
Among them, the overseer and noble castes were "upper-class people"; the Engineer caste and Warrior Caste were "middle-class people"; and the laborer, service, and farmer castes were "lower-class people."
These castes were basically determined at birth.
All Geonosian reproduction was carried out by the Queen Emperor. In a reproductive state, the Queen Emperor could lay one egg every eight seconds. The eggs she produced differed according to the needs of the species. For example, during wartime, she would produce large numbers of Warrior Caste eggs; during periods of production and construction, she would produce laborer caste eggs.
Moreover, the Queen Emperor managed the major castes and tribes through subordinate Queens. The Queens maintained a certain degree of hive-mind connection with their respective tribes, allowing them to establish their authority. However, this hive-mind connection was not especially coercive, so individuals still retained a high degree of independence. Some strong-willed individuals were basically unaffected by its restraints. Under special circumstances, the Queen of the Geonosians could also use the hive mind to resurrect Geonosians who had just died and send them back into battle.
