"Promise her in person..." Orson Krennic fell silent.
It had to be said, this plan was highly tempting. What worried him most now was the possibility that the Death Star construction project would not be completed on schedule... Forcing Wilhuff Tarkin out might have looked like a major political victory, but in reality, he would have to pay a price for it.
Who was Tarkin? Setting aside Darth Vader, who enjoyed His Majesty the Emperor's deep trust, the next two leading figures in the Imperial military were Wilhuff Tarkin and Dunn Vesex. Someone of that stature could not possibly be brought down through political infighting. It required a personal decree from His Majesty the Emperor.
When Orson Krennic had asked Palpatine to drive Wilhuff Tarkin out of the DS-1 project, he had made a guarantee. If he failed to complete the work on schedule, the only thing waiting for him would be the loss of his head. There would be no room for negotiation.
Moreover, Wilhuff Tarkin had not completely left the DS-1 project. The "civilian space station construction project" he had been assigned to actually involved the Cutting-Edge Technology Alliance. Anything connected to the Cutting-Edge Technology Alliance was undoubtedly an extremely classified major project. At the very least, Orman Tagge, the Alliance's leader, was a man hungry for glory; he would never bring out some ordinary project and involve someone of Wilhuff Tarkin's rank.
Once Tarkin completed that project and the DS-1 battle station had also been transferred to Scarif, he would return here to oversee and take charge of the installation and testing of the DS-1's weapons systems.
By then, if Krennic had not produced any outstanding achievements during the DS-1's construction, he would inevitably suffer a devastating blow from Tarkin.
So Poggle the Lesser's proposal was indeed
