"We're already level thirty?"
Snow Empress and Ice Empress looked at Lang Lei before them with disbelief, marveling inwardly. It hadn't even been a month since Lang Lei had advanced to level twenty-nine! This wasn't like the easy promotions at lower levels; advancing from twenty-nine to thirty was a significant threshold in a Soul Master's growth, not easily overcome by most.
While they knew this threshold was practically nonexistent for Lang Lei, his rapid breakthrough to level thirty, seemingly unaffected by it, was truly astonishing.
"Mhm, so I hurried over as soon as I could," Lang Lei explained with a smile. "The sooner I absorb a Soul Ring, the sooner I can get familiar with my strength."
Snow Empress and Ice Empress exchanged glances, seeing admiration for Lang Lei in each other's eyes. So young, yet not only exceptionally talented but also so diligent and hardworking – a rare sight indeed.
"That's a great idea, let's head out now," Snow Empress said first, agreeing to Lang Lei's plan.
"Are we taking a carriage again?" Lang Lei asked, a little confused.
"That would be too slow," Ice Empress chuckled, shaking her head. "This time, we'll fly directly."
"Fly?" Lang Lei's eyes widened, clearly surprised by the suggestion.
"That's right," Ice Empress's lips curved into a confident smile. She suddenly reached out, grabbed Lang Lei's arm, and without hesitation, soared into the sky with him.
Snow Empress watched the departing duo with a hint of helplessness and followed suit.
It had to be said, the speed of a Super Douluo flying at full power was truly lightning fast!
They would likely reach their destination, even with such a long distance, in less than a day. As two of the three great Heavenly Kings of the Extreme North, Ice Empress and Snow Empress possessed immense reserves, unconcerned with Soul Power consumption. They hadn't stopped once on their journey.
"Lang Lei, it seems Sister Bing just wants to tease you~?" someone in Lang Lei's mind said with a giggle.
"Mhm, I figured," Lang Lei replied with a helpless shrug and a wry smile. "She probably had this idea when I was little, but I was too young then, and they worried I'd get scared. So Sister Xue always stopped Sister Bing. Now, though, I guess because I awakened my Martial Soul, and with my usual behavior, Sister Bing decided..."
"Oh dear, Lang Lei is just too mature, no childish innocence and cuteness at all~?" Elysia continued to tease.
"I really can't pretend to be like that..." Lang Lei said with a look of helplessness. "Asking me to act like a child, I just can't do it..."
"Heehee, it's okay, I can teach you~?" Elysia suggested enthusiastically.
"Uh... let's not, really, it's absolutely unnecessary!" Lang Lei waved his hands frantically, decisively rejecting the "kind offer."
Just then, Ice Empress suddenly noticed that Lang Lei, whom she was holding, was completely still, as if he had lost all life. Ice Empress's heart tightened. She stopped abruptly and looked down to check on Lang Lei's condition.
However, when she saw Lang Lei's face clearly, she was surprised to find that he wasn't scared unconscious at all. Instead, his expression was unusually calm, even placid. This sparked Ice Empress's curiosity and ignited her strong competitive spirit.
Ice Empress secretly resolved to find a way to make Lang Lei feel fear today, or she wouldn't give up. Thus, she began to perform various agile and unpredictable maneuvers in mid-air, sometimes leaping high, sometimes diving rapidly, creating a dazzling display.
Yet, despite the thrilling and perilous nature of Ice Empress's movements, Lang Lei's expression remained unchanged, not the slightest flicker. He watched Ice Empress's performance calmly, like an observer, as if it had nothing to do with him.
Ultimately, Ice Empress's efforts ended in failure. Finally, she looked at Lang Lei with unconcealed frustration. Lang Lei's expression was still as serene as ever, showing no signs of being frightened.
"Hmph, honestly, why aren't you scared?!" Ice Empress exclaimed, somewhat exasperated. She couldn't understand why Lang Lei could remain so composed in such a terrifying situation.
I used to be a Nameless and a Sea Ranger, restless souls, zipping between galaxies. High-altitude drops and rapid flights were commonplace. I could face a spaceship crash with a straight face, so how could I be scared by this level of intensity?
"Alright, Bing'er, stop messing around. Let's find a suitable Soul Ring for Lang Lei quickly," Snow Empress, who had followed closely, landed beside Ice Empress and patted her shoulder.
They landed again at the edge of the Star Dou Great Forest, suppressing their auras as much as possible.
The reason was the same as last time.
"Lang Lei, have you decided what kind of Soul Ring you want?"
"Mhm... This time, I want to absorb a Life-type Soul Ring, to balance Life and Destruction. Otherwise, constantly adding Destruction-attribute Soul Rings... my Martial Soul keeps giving me some unpleasant messages."
"Is that so? The direct feelings from a Martial Soul are usually quite accurate. Let's go with your suggestion this time then." Snow Empress pondered for a moment and agreed to Lang Lei's request.
"What about the age? Have you thought about that?" With the Soul Ring's attribute confirmed, the next most important thing was its age.
In a sense, the age was even more important than the attribute.
If a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring were presented, few Soul Masters would consider whether its attributes suited them; they would generally absorb it directly.
"This time, I want to absorb a ten-thousand-year one."
Receiving the expected answer, Snow Empress and Ice Empress didn't show the anticipated delight. Instead, they looked at Lang Lei with a hint of seriousness.
"You know that ten-thousand-year Soul Rings are different from thousand-year ones, right?"
"Mhm, I know. Soul Shock. I've already considered it, it's not a problem." Lang Lei nodded.
Even the consciousness of Deities couldn't do anything to me, let alone a small Soul Beast.
Besides, it might be because I actively walked into the shadow of the Void before and came back out, having been tainted by too much Nothingness. I seem to have also gained some characteristics of a Void Pathwalker.
For example, my own consciousness state cannot be influenced by other powers. Instead, it subconsciously infects whatever comes into contact with my soul.
The Soul Shock that others fear most when absorbing Soul Rings was never an issue for me from the start.
Now, Lang Lei only needs to focus on improving his physical fitness.
