Background / History
Imperial balancing policy
Xue Ye personally appointed Xue Qinghe as Crown Prince while supporting the rival faction led by his brother, Prince Xue Xing. He knowingly allowed Xue Xing to exploit the rivalry between Xue Beng and Xue Qinghe, preferring competing factions to a single power bloc that could threaten his authority 14 22.
He generally dismissed Xue Beng’s repeated misconduct as minor trouble, leaving Xue Xing to handle the consequences. He had also considered placing Heaven Dou Royal Academy under Xue Qinghe’s management 16 22.
Judgment of Lang Lei
After Lang Lei killed Fleke, Count Iskart’s only son, Heaven Dou Royal Academy’s committee sent him to the imperial palace for judgment. Xue Ye initially treated the case as a commoner offending the nobility and saw an opportunity to strengthen his support among nobles 20 24.
The confrontation changed when Snow Empress shattered his two frozen Soul Douluo guards. Xue Ye nevertheless challenged Lang Lei’s conduct, arguing that he should have sought a teacher’s help rather than killed his provocateur. When asked whether nobles and commoners received equal punishment for murder, he rejected the comparison 21.
Lang Lei then revealed that Xue Beng had harassed a level-99 Peerless Douluo and a level-98 Super Douluo. Xue Ye realized that nobody present could protect him from Lang Lei’s guardians. He also feared that driving their group toward the Star Luo Empire could worsen Heaven Dou’s military disadvantage 21 22.
Punishment and reconciliation
Xue Ye ordered Xue Beng and Xue Xing imprisoned, threatening to hand them over if they could not obtain forgiveness. He also revoked Iskart’s hereditary title and demanded a solution from the assembled officials 23.
Qian Renxue, disguised as Xue Qinghe, proposed using her existing friendship with Lang Lei to deliver valuable compensation. Xue Ye recognized that the proposal also served the Crown Prince’s campaign against political rivals, but accepted it. In private, he became receptive to the possibility of turning Lang Lei from a threat into an ally 23 24.
He selected treasury gifts and personal funds for the apology, entrusting their delivery to Xue Qinghe. Before sending the gifts, he asked that an escape route be secured for Xue Beng if possible. Lang Lei accepted the compensation but subsequently instructed Qian Renxue to dispose of Xue Beng and Xue Xing; the provided passages do not show Xue Ye’s response to that instruction 25.
Personality
Xue Ye prioritizes imperial authority and factional control. His tolerance of Xue Beng’s misconduct is partly political: the prince’s rivalry with Xue Qinghe helps prevent one faction from becoming dominant. His rejection of equal treatment for nobles and commoners also exposes his attachment to social hierarchy 21 22.
He maintains a composed, authoritative manner until faced with overwhelming force. Learning the cultivation levels of Lang Lei’s guardians leaves him nearly collapsing with fear, after which he sacrifices royal relatives’ protection to preserve his position. Once calmer, however, he can recognize a diplomatic opportunity and act on useful advice 22 23 24.
His pragmatism does not entirely erase family attachment. Despite ordering Xue Beng imprisoned, he privately asks Xue Qinghe to try to save his brother 25.

- Storage Soul Tool — Used to package the compensation delivered by Xue Qinghe 25.

- Snow Empress and Ice Empress — Lang Lei’s protectors; their revealed strength forces Xue Ye to abandon his confrontational position 21 22.
