Nature and Attainment

Formation Dao is one of the world's Great Daos. It allows cultivators to establish formations for combat, defense, confinement, concealment, and other purposes. Most cultivators prioritize one Dao because cultivating several demands substantial time and energy. 16

Great Dao mastery is divided into five recognized levels:

Formation Creation and Refinement

A sufficiently skilled practitioner can establish formations directly from comprehended formation patterns and optimize their structure.

• Zhou Qiongtian creates an Earth-grade confinement formation after studying a basic formation manual. 42
• By altering its patterns, he increases the formation's power severalfold and makes it capable of delaying a Cycle Great Perfection cultivator. 42
• His Quasi-Supreme Grandmaster comprehension lets him infer new formations from existing ones and understand hundreds of manuals ranging from Mortal grade to Saint Tier. 42
• After three days of study, he can easily establish Saint Tier grand formations. 42
• Venerable Tier grand formations remain beyond his current cultivation capacity; he is expected to create them after reaching Saint King. 42

Grand Formations

Grand formations can combine numerous smaller formations into a single layered structure.

• A formation beneath the cliff in Zhou Huanyue's illusion consists of hundreds of formations, including illusion, transformation, flight-prohibition, spirit-gathering, concealment, and storage formations. 28
• Chu Tiange's Venerable Tier Grand Formation uses interlocking formations and Law Power to seal the Azure Nether Sacred Land, preventing its inhabitants from escaping. 29
• The formation can provide defensive protection strong enough that a Saint King cannot break through it. 29
• Zhou Qiongtian controls a Venerable Tier Grand Formation in the present, but his Feather Ascension cultivation prevents him from fully exerting its power against attacking Saints and Saint Kings. 30

Illusion Formations

Illusion formations can force entrants to experience another person's life while transmitting knowledge and inheritances.

• Chu Tiange's illusion formation transforms both Zhou Qiongtian and Lin Tian into Chu Tiange, placing them within his past. 26
• The formation allows its participants to gain Formation Dao knowledge through the experiences they undergo. 26 27
• Zhou Qiongtian later falls into a second illusion formation within the first, experiencing Zhou Huanyue's life and acquiring control of the formation beneath the cliff. 28
• The repeated illusion experiences ultimately allow Zhou Qiongtian to fulfill the conditions for Chu Tiange's inheritance. 29

Divine Path Sect and Chu Tiange

The Divine Path Sect was a top power renowned for its Formation Dao. Its sect master considered Chu Tiange the sect's greatest Formation Dao talent in ten thousand years and intended for him to inherit the sect's legacy. 26 27

Chu Tiange initially preferred the Sword Dao, but his master ordered him to focus on Formation Dao, with Soul Dao as a secondary path because the sect's formations primarily used Soul Dao. 27

• Chu Tiange — A Formation Dao Saint King who once used a world-shattering killing formation to eliminate a Saint King of the same realm. 26
• Divine Path Sect Master — Chu Tiange's master and a Formation Dao Great Grandmaster. He secretly arranges an inheritance opportunity to deepen Chu Tiange's commitment to the path. 27
• Ye Xueqi — Chu Tiange's senior sister and childhood sweetheart; she escorts him to the Saint-realm Formation Dao expert's inheritance site. 25 27
• Zhou Huanyue — The owner of the nested illusion formation and an inheritance later acquired by Zhou Qiongtian. 28

Chu Tiange's Inheritance

Chu Tiange's inheritance requires its recipient to meet three conditions:

1. Reach Quasi-Supreme Grandmaster mastery in Formation Dao.
2. Avenge the Divine Path Sect.
3. Swear to pass down the Divine Path Sect's legacy. 29

Within the illusion, Zhou Qiongtian fulfills these requirements after living through Chu Tiange's life: the Divine Path Sect's destruction, Chu Tiange's escape, and his eventual revenge against the four powers responsible. 29

Lin Tian reaches Grandmaster-level Formation Dao mastery within the illusion but fails to obtain the inheritance because he does not meet any of its three requirements. 29

Story Role

• Zhou Qiongtian and Lin Tian are drawn into Chu Tiange's illusion formation while pursuing one another. Both seek the Formation Dao inheritance within it. 25 26
• Zhou Qiongtian obtains Chu Tiange's memories and a Saint-realm expert's inheritance, advancing from Ordinary Formation Dao attainment to Grandmaster. 27
• He enters Zhou Huanyue's nested illusion, gains control of its grand formation, and uses its inheritance to understand how to complete Chu Tiange's trial. 28
• Zhou Qiongtian completes the inheritance trial and emerges with Quasi-Supreme Grandmaster Formation Dao attainment. He uses the formation's Law Power to immobilize Lin Tian. 29
• Later, he studies foundational Formation Dao manuals and converts his exceptional attainment into practical formation-setting ability, including Saint Tier grand formations. 42
