Hyuga Masayuki led Hyuga Bin, Uchiha Obito, and Nohara Rin all the way to Training Ground No. 5 in Konoha.
Stopping, Hyuga Masayuki spoke to the three before him:
"Let's start with a simple self-introduction. Name, hobby, and dream."
"I'll go first. My name is Hyuga Masayuki, Jonin. My hobby is eating grilled meat, and my dream is for the ninja world to know peace."
With that, Hyuga Masayuki's gaze shifted to Hyuga Bin on the far left.
"My name is Hyuga Bin, Genin. My hobby is savoring good food, and my dream is about the same as Masayuki-sensei's—I hope for world peace."
Hyuga Bin's brief self-introduction ended, and Hyuga Masayuki's eyes moved to Nohara Rin.
"My name is Nohara Rin, Genin. I like eating very sweet cake, and my dream is to become an excellent kunoichi."
"My name is Uchiha Obito, Genin. My hobby is eating three-color mochi, and my dream is to become Hokage."
The four finished their introductions quickly.
Unlike most teams, whose self-introductions featured diverse hobbies like singing, dancing, rap, or playing ball, all four of their hobbies revolved around "eating," making them a veritable "foodie squad."
After memorizing the names of Hyuga Bin and the other two, Hyuga Masayuki continued, "Now let's have a practical exercise to get to know each other better."
"Masayuki-sensei, is it a bell grab?" Uchiha Obito asked instinctively.
As the words fell, Hyuga Bin thought of Team 7 from Naruto and the bell-grab plot that had been worn thin by fanfiction.
"Obito-kun, who told you about bell grabbing?" Hyuga Masayuki put the bell he was about to pull from his ninja tool bag back, smiling as he asked Uchiha Obito.
"An elder from my clan," Uchiha Obito replied.
He'd heard during his time at the Ninja Academy that a team's first test was a bell grab, but the specifics had been kept from him.
"I see. For this fight, we won't bother with flashy stuff like bell grabbing. Just come at me with all your strength."
As Hyuga Masayuki finished speaking, the option quest that Hyuga Bin triggered several times a day appeared again.
[Option A: Defeat the leading jonin Hyuga Masayuki. Completion reward: Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu (B-rank reward).]
[Option B: Go all out, win or lose. Completion reward: Fire Release—Great Fire Destruction (A-rank reward).]
[Option C: Just practice a bit, good enough. Completion reward: Random Attribute Points +0.1.]
"Hyuga Masayuki is a jonin, and defeating him only gives a B-rank reward."
"And going all out gives a bigger reward than beating him."
"This Option System is full of traps!"
After casually complaining about the system, Hyuga Bin silently chose Option C.
[Option quest complete, Dojutsu +0.1.]
The practical exercise ended quickly.
Uchiha Obito and Nohara Rin were freshly graduated genin, and Hyuga Bin, deliberately holding back to only show ordinary genin level, faced Hyuga Masayuki—a jonin naturally skilled in defense—and lasted only a few exchanges before being picked off one by one.
After the exercise, Hyuga Masayuki gave individual guidance on the weak points of Hyuga Bin, Uchiha Obito, and Nohara Rin.
From this, Hyuga Masayuki was clearly a very responsible team leader.
Though Hyuga Masayuki's chakra wasn't much more than Hatake Kakashi's in the original story, when it came to teaching genin on his team, he was probably about 3.53 times as dedicated as the original Kakashi.
After the guidance, Hyuga Masayuki gave Hyuga Bin and the others enough time to digest the shortcomings from the fight, then smiled and arranged, "To celebrate the formation of Team 22 today, I'll treat you all to grilled meat."
"Thank you, Masayuki-sensei."
Hearing grilled meat, Hyuga Bin and the others all smiled.
In the world of Naruto, ramen was already considered "rich people's" food, and grilled meat was even more expensive—ordinary ninja rarely indulged.
Even Hyuga Bin, who had a generous allowance, only went once a month, and after each grilled meat meal, he had to tighten his spending for the next few days.
For the orphan Uchiha Obito and Nohara Rin from an ordinary family, they couldn't even afford grilled meat twice a year.
Early the next morning, Hyuga Bin arrived early at the meeting point agreed upon the night before.
After waiting a few minutes, Uchiha Obito and Nohara Rin also showed up.
After a quick greeting, the three began waiting for Hyuga Masayuki's arrival.
Another full half hour passed before Hyuga Masayuki finally showed up.
He was twenty minutes late.
"Masayuki-sensei!"
Hyuga Bin and the others bowed in greeting, showing no displeasure at his tardiness.
"Sorry about that. I went to the Mission Hall first to pick up a mission for you, so I'm late," Hyuga Masayuki explained with a smile.
"Masayuki-sensei, what kind of mission is it?" Uchiha Obito asked, his face full of anticipation.
Nohara Rin also showed an expectant look.
For newly graduated genin, carrying out missions was a fresh and exciting experience.
Hyuga Bin had already guessed it was a D-rank mission, so he felt no anticipation at all.
In Konoha, newly graduated genin would never be sent out of the village on a C-rank mission with some danger without completing at least one D-rank mission first.
In response to Uchiha Obito's question, Hyuga Masayuki took a hand-drawn paper from his pocket and handed it to Uchiha Obito.
On the hand-drawn paper was a fat orange cat, simply called an Orange Cat.
On the back of the paper was a brief mission description, including where the Orange Cat had gone missing.
Looking at this hand-drawn paper, Hyuga Bin understood the mission and also recalled the shadow of his younger days, when he had spent an entire day failing to catch that "Xiao Hua."
"Your first ninja mission is to find this lost Orange Cat. After the mission is complete, gather here again."
"Yes, Masayuki-sensei!"
"Alright, start the mission." Hyuga Masayuki finished speaking and turned to leave.
As a jonin, he naturally wouldn't accompany Hyuga Bin and the other two on such a simple, low-level task as catching an Orange Cat.
"Bin, let's split up to catch the cat and see who gets it first." After reading the mission briefing, Uchiha Obito smiled and voiced his idea.
The weather was nice today, and he felt this mission was simple enough to finish in no time.
"Cats aren't that easy to catch, and this one's an adult orange porker. We can split up to look for it, but don't go too far apart. Once we find its trail, we'll cooperate to catch it."
Hyuga Bin immediately rejected Uchiha Obito's idea and offered his own suggestion.
In the world of Naruto, a cat could easily leap several meters with a single jump. Catching it without damaging buildings or harming it was extremely difficult.
Even the Seventh Hokage, Uzumaki Naruto, had once been completely outplayed by a small cat.
