Academy Years and White Fang’s Legacy

Kakashi trains diligently from childhood, driven by the desire not to tarnish his father’s reputation. Initially dismissive of children his own age, he notices Shuichi’s unusual maturity and comes to regard him as a serious rival. His stated dream is to become a great ninja like Sakumo 11 12.

Despite earning perfect marks in every subject, Kakashi places second behind Shuichi. Sakumo reassures him and suggests that having someone to learn from may temper his pride. With his father’s permission, Kakashi joins Shuichi’s training games, turning their competition into a continuing friendship 22 23.

After Sakumo’s suicide, Kakashi’s future becomes a concern for the Third Hokage. Shuichi interprets Sakumo’s death partly as an attempt to protect his son from political repercussions.
