Background / History

Jun Wushang is the illegitimate son of the Marquis of Huaiyuan, born to a maid. His position within the marquis’s estate was precarious, and Wei Qing’s original self helped him survive the estate’s internal struggles. The two became sworn brothers, a bond Jun Wushang continues to honor after Wei Qing’s apparent death and return 1.

On the day he became a formal Warden, Jun Wushang learned that Wei Qing had supposedly died from sudden illness. He immediately challenged the Wei household’s attempt to bury Wei Qing without a Heavenly Realm Division examination, invoking Division law and threatening anyone who interfered with the Thousand Blade Prison 1. When Wei Qing awakened in his coffin, Jun Wushang aided him against the disloyal old butler 1.

His mother arranged a childhood betrothal between him and Zhang Xue. Focused on cultivation, Jun Wushang traveled to Qingcheng intending to dissolve the engagement, only to discover that Zhang Xue was the daughter of Zhang Zhidong, the man before whom he had discussed breaking it off. Zhang Xue defeated him in their duel, and he withdrew his demand to end the engagement 16 17.

During the Qingcheng operation against the Ghost Corpse Sect, he insisted on joining Wei Qing’s team. His involvement placed him alongside Zhang Xue in dangerous battles, including the Black Mist Wasteland expedition 20 28. He later protected Zhang Xue from a lethal attack at the risk of his own life, deepening their relationship 23 24.

Personality

Jun Wushang is intensely loyal, especially toward Wei Qing. He does not hesitate to confront powerful families, corrupt officials, or enemies of the Heavenly Realm Division when they threaten his sworn brother or innocent people 1 49 50.

He is described as born for battle: fierce, competitive, and prone to throwing caution aside in combat. This ferocity made his life at Marquis Huaiyuan’s Estate difficult, but it also made him the first of his cohort to become an official Guardian Envoy 15.

Outside battle, he is blunt, proud, and frequently comedic. He is enthusiastic about fighting and demon slaying, worries about embarrassing himself before Zhang Xue, and is notably unwilling to spend money on banquets 15 41 47.

Jun Wushang arrives at the Wei residence to investigate Wei Qing’s sudden death. He enforces Heavenly Realm Division procedure, destroys the coffin lid, and reunites with the living Wei Qing 1.

Qingcheng and the Engagement Dispute

He delivers Wei Qing’s Guardian Envoy token and appointment documents, then reveals his own goal of ending his betrothal to Zhang Xue. His attempt fails after Zhang Xue defeats him, setting the foundation for their later relationship 15 16 17.

Ghost Corpse Sect Operation

Jun Wushang joins Wei Qing’s assault on the City God Temple. He fights the Ghost Corpse Sect’s black-clad forces and participates in the rescue of captive civilians 20 21.

Black Mist Wasteland
