Background / History

Gu Yuena awakens in a hidden space at the bottom of the Lake of Life after sensing the sacred dragon auras of the resurrected Ice Dragon King and Fire Dragon King. Seeing their return as a chance to strengthen a Soul Beast race threatened by divine restrictions and human hunting, she orders Di Tian to locate and invite them back. Because of her injuries, she cannot act personally. 60

Di Tian instead brings Lang Lei, Xuan Bing, and Li Huo to her. Gu Yuena initially mistakes Lang Lei for a dragon-type Soul Beast in human form because of the purity of his dragon aura. When Lang Lei reveals that he revived the two Dragon Kings, she recognizes that his methods bypass the God Realm’s ordinary control over souls and begins treating him as an equal rather than a junior. 63

She proposes an alliance: Lang Lei will help the Soul Beasts counterattack the God Realm, while she will fulfill two conditions he sets. Her acceptance of his demand for stored Soul Bones establishes their cooperation, and she entrusts Di Tian with carrying out the agreement. 65

As part of her long-term contingency for the Soul Beast race, Gu Yuena separates a soul fragment into the child Na'er and gives her the Silver Dragon Spear. She asks Lang Lei to protect Na'er, hoping that Na'er’s connection to him will preserve an avenue of survival even if the Soul Beasts lose. 67 68 116

When Lang Lei prepares to enter the God Realm, Gu Yuena agrees to sacrifice herself so that he can absorb her Soul Ring and gain strength. He swears to revive her within a day or devote his life to the Soul Beasts’ revival. He fulfills that promise with the Teyvat Fried Egg, restoring her from near death. 116 117

Gu Yuena accompanies Lang Lei to the God Realm and reunites with the sealed Golden Dragon King, whom she considers her elder brother. He gives her purified bloodline power and Divine Power, naming her the future successor to the Dragon God. 118 119

After the Golden Dragon King’s death and Lang Lei’s return, she orders the Star Dou Great Forest to expel Soul Masters while explicitly avoiding unnecessary conflict with humanity. Though initially proud and distant, she becomes notably patient with Lang Lei after learning of his connection to the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings. She values strength, openly states that female dragons admire powerful males, and measures Lang Lei’s worth by his ability to fulfill his promises. 63 64 66

She also has a playful, provocative side. Gu Yuena repeatedly teases Lang Lei about his attention toward her and uses ambiguous remarks to unsettle both him and Griseo. 64 66 67

Beneath her authority, she carries severe insecurity and exhaustion. After the Golden Dragon King grants her his power, she calls herself weak and incompetent, admitting that her understanding of herself has been shaped by incomplete Dragon God memories and the absence of guidance. 120
