Mizuki's Perfect Scheme
With the Third Hokage's personal recommendation, Xu Fan's enrollment process became much easier.
"Now I just need to go to the Ninja Academy and find Iruka-sensei to complete my enrollment, and take care of the check-in mission while I'm at it."
Over the past five years, Xu Fan had become thoroughly familiar with Konoha's layout.
Starting from his residence, it took him only about half an hour to reach the Ninja Academy.
Meanwhile, Hiruzen Sarutobi had already instructed the academy teachers to take good care of Xu Fan.
"You must be Senju Xu."
The moment Xu Fan entered the Ninja Academy, a Chunin teacher called out to him.
A flicker of surprise crossed Xu Fan's eyes, because the person receiving him was none other than a fairly well-known figure in the Naruto world.
Mizuki-sensei.
"Yes." Xu Fan nodded. Although Mizuki was despicable, cunning, and deeply jealous, that had nothing to do with him.
If Mizuki really tried to trick him into stealing the Scroll of Seals, that would actually be a good thing.
He could learn the forbidden techniques inside, then dump the blame on someone else.
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
"Senju?" Seeing that Xu Fan's mind was elsewhere, Mizuki had no choice but to raise his voice and call his name several times.
"Ah, it's nothing." Xu Fan shook his head, the corners of his mouth lifting as he smiled. "I remembered something happy."
"Something happy? Ah, I understand."
Mizuki's smile was exceptionally sunny. If one did not know his true nature, one might genuinely be fooled by his harmless image as a bright, friendly older brother.
"Guess how I recognized you at a glance?" Mizuki gestured with one hand, indicating that they could talk as they walked. He could also show Xu Fan around.
"Because of this?" Xu Fan pointed to the distinctive emblem of the Senju Clan on his chest.
He was not some famous figure. It was not as though everyone in the village knew of his existence.
But the Senju Clan emblem was different.
"That's right. Senju, you really are smart." Mizuki maintained that sunny smile.
Yet inwardly, he pitied Xu Fan.
Normally, once someone reached a certain age, they could enter the Ninja Academy, receive ninja education, and qualify to become a Genin after graduation.
But Xu Fan was already thirteen this year. He was well past the age when he should have graduated.
More gifted ninjas would have already grown into Jonin by that age.
Kakashi and Itachi Uchiha were talents like that.
Whenever Mizuki thought of it, he became jealous of their gifts.
"The Senju Clan..." Mizuki sighed inwardly.
If it had been anyone else, it might not have meant much.
But the surname Senju was practically Konoha's history.
Hashirama Senju, hailed as the God of Shinobi, had possessed such a dazzling reputation.
Tobirama Senju had been equally iron-blooded.
Even in Tsunade's generation, she was unrivaled in medical ninjutsu and one of the legendary Three Sannin.
And then there was Xu Fan...
Thirteen years old—not held back a grade, but only just entering the Ninja Academy.
If Mizuki's guess was correct, the Third Hokage had probably approved his enrollment only because he pitied him.
It was no exaggeration to say that with Xu Fan's circumstances, let alone becoming a Genin, he likely did not even have a chance of graduating smoothly.
"Another Naruto Uzumaki," Mizuki could not help but complain inwardly.
Whenever he saw that fox demon brat trying so hard to prove himself, he found it amusing.
No matter how hard Naruto worked, he could never become a real ninja.
Just like Xu Fan now.
"Come to think of it, this is your first time here, right?" Mizuki took a deep breath and casually chatted with Xu Fan.
"No, I came once five years ago, but I wasn't able to enroll successfully. This time, I have the Third Hokage to thank." Xu Fan spoke absentmindedly.
Before officially becoming a student, he needed to go with Mizuki to the academic affairs office to register.
Along the way, they did not see any other students.
"I see." Mizuki nodded, feeling even more pity for Xu Fan.
"But if I make good use of this guy, perhaps there'll be an unexpected result."
Mizuki narrowed his eyes. As a Chunin instructor, he had long known that a copy of the Scroll of Seals was hidden in the Hokage's office.
It recorded quite a few forbidden techniques.
If he could get his hands on it...
"What grade will I be assigned to?" Xu Fan suddenly asked.
The Ninja Academy was not large to begin with, and each grade only had a few dozen students. In less than a few minutes, he and Mizuki stopped outside the academic affairs office.
Ding! Congratulations, Host, for successfully arriving at the check-in location. Check-in has officially begun. Leaving midway will be considered a check-in failure! Progress bar initiated. 1% 23%
"So the check-in only triggered once I got here?" Xu Fan muttered. He had found it strange on the way over that the check-in assistant had not reacted.
It seemed that this check-in's range of judgment differed from the previous ones.
66% 100% Congratulations, Host! Check-in successful! Mission reward: Mastery of the five Chakra natures—Wind, Lightning, Fire, Water, and Earth!
As soon as the assistant's voice fell silent, Xu Fan felt a mysterious force appear within his body. It rapidly swelled and fused with him.
"Five Chakra natures..." Xu Fan was somewhat surprised.
As a transmigrator who had watched Naruto, he knew a fair bit about Chakra natures.
However, Xu Fan was not sure whether everyone possessed Chakra of five different natures, with only one or two being especially prominent, or whether ordinary people had only one or two Chakra natures.
For example, Naruto Uzumaki excelled at Wind Release.
Sasuke excelled at Lightning Release and Fire Release.
As for Xu Fan now, he could easily use any one of the five transformations: Wind, Lightning, Water, Fire, and Earth.
However, after completing this check-in, the next check-in mission did not appear immediately.
"Looks like the assistant's check-in missions don't come one after another."
Still, the rewards from just the first two check-ins were already so generous that Xu Fan looked forward to the later rewards even more.
"All right, stop standing there daydreaming."
Mizuki's voice came again, and Xu Fan instinctively looked over.
While he had been completing the check-in, Mizuki had already finished his enrollment application for him.
"Now I'll take you to the class you'll be attending. Are you ready?" Mizuki asked with a smile.
"Of course." Xu Fan answered crisply. He had long been unable to wait.
But when Mizuki led Xu Fan to the classroom door, they unexpectedly discovered that there was not a single student inside.
"Ah... I remember now."
Mizuki suddenly realized. "Iruka's Class has practical training today."
Then he looked at Xu Fan again. "It seems your luck... isn't very good."
Although the students in Iruka's Class were younger than Xu Fan, they had all enrolled through the normal process.
In an actual fight, Xu Fan would probably only be on the receiving end of a beating.
However...
That was exactly what Mizuki was looking forward to.
The more severely Xu Fan was beaten, the easier it would be for Mizuki to trick him into stealing the Scroll of Seals.
