Background

Naruto was raised in Konohagakure as an orphan while the village feared and ostracized him for being the vessel of the Nine-Tails. Even basic social contact was denied to him; he had to use Transformation Technique and clones to buy items from hostile shopkeepers. Xu Fan became the first person to treat him as a friend 11 221.

When Xu Fan was attacked by Root shinobi, Naruto rushed to help despite being terrified. After Xu Fan shielded him from the bodies at the scene, Naruto admitted that he had run away in fear and asked Xu Fan to teach him how to become stronger 18.

During the Uchiha coup, Naruto’s consciousness was corrupted by the Nine-Tails. His rampage escalated from six to eight tails and nearly destroyed Konoha, until Xu Fan suppressed him with Wood Release 101 103 106 108.

Xu Fan later told Naruto that he was Minato Namikaze’s son and that Kushina Uzumaki’s chakra, as well as Minato’s, remained within the Nine-Tails’ seal. Naruto accepted the truth, resolved to control the Nine-Tails, and trained at Mount Myōboku under Xu Fan and Jiraiya’s guidance 121 122.

Personality

Naruto is impulsive, outspoken, and confrontational, often choosing a direct challenge over patience or stealth. He immediately challenges Kakashi during Team 7’s bell exercise and openly wants to defeat Sasuke to prove himself 229 222.

His bravado is paired with genuine courage. Naruto ran toward Root shinobi despite his fear, persisted through the Nine-Tails’ hostility, and continued attacking Madara even after the Nine-Tails was extracted from him 18 213 352.

Meeting Minato and Kushina gives Naruto a stronger sense of identity and responsibility. Rather than simply treating the Nine-Tails as a source of power, he promises to one day erase its hatred 222.
