Russell abolished the original kneeling ceremony.

It was replaced with a rule that one need only bow upon seeing the lord for the first time each day. On the second and subsequent encounters, a respectful gaze would suffice.

Even so, with the dense crowd all bent at the waist, the sight still filled Russell with awe.

This is the authority of a feudal lord. This is the splendor of nobility under serfdom, even if I am only the lowest-ranked knight. Welcomed by the serfs' bows, Russell arrived at Small Market Town, feeling deeply moved.

The manor meeting would be held here.

Small Market Town had already been cleaned from top to bottom. It was spotless, and aside from the faint lingering stench of manure, there was nothing to criticize.

Tables, chairs, and benches had all been set out.

The serfs were forbidden from entering, so they crowded outside Small Market Town, waiting for the meeting about to be held within.

"My lord, your seat." Old Hans warmly welcomed Russell, appearing exceedingly humble.

Yet no one mocked him. On the contrary, all the serfs envied Old Hans for being able to speak with the Lord Master—this, too, was a symbol of status.

"Is everyone here?" After taking his seat, Russell swept his gaze over the crowd.

Eric, Charles, the Wildcat Sisters, four Knight Retainers, three cave rangers, Old Hans the manor steward, the Tunic Chiefs of the six tunics, forty or fifty serf overseers, and several elected serf representatives.

Essentially, everyone in Wuyou Snake Manor whose name could be called had gathered in Small Market Town.

"Everyone is here, my lord." Charles replied with a trace of excitement. "You may begin the manor meeting."
