A loud crash rang out as a green mechanical object suddenly burst from a nearby building, slamming heavily into her.
Crack—
Her right shoulder gave a splintering sound as her frail body rolled twice across the ground before crashing into a stone pillar.
"Watch out!"
Izuku Midoriya's voice came from behind.
"Pfft."
Su Lin spat out blood and lifted her head again, only to see that the thing that had hit her was already shattered by a beam of light shot from afar.
Su Lin took a deep breath, moving her limbs to check—thankfully nothing was broken. Still, the sleeve of her right arm was torn, and her stockings had a rip, which left her a bit uncomfortable.
"Are you okay?" Izuku Midoriya rushed over in a few steps and grabbed her arm.
"Cough." Su Lin spat out more blood and gave him a helpless look. "Go fight. Don't worry about me."
"But you—"
"I have a healing Quirk." Su Lin raised her injured hand.
Midoriya stared at her reluctantly for a few seconds. Seeing that the wound was indeed closing fast, he gritted his teeth, stood up, and ran off into the distance.
"Saber!"
At the center of the Exam Venue, Mysterious Heroine X kicked apart a three-point Fake Enemy in front of her, then used the recoil to launch herself dozens of meters away.
Her dazzling long sword swept a flash of cold light, slicing clean through another robot's neck. But the next moment, she dismissed the clone, letting it vanish on the spot.
No choice—the clone could only last five minutes. With no enemies nearby, it was better to cancel the Quirk and let Yukino search for targets to save time.
"That child."
A female teacher sitting in the monitoring room noticed X-Hair on a split screen and couldn't help speaking up.
"Really impressive. Looks like a few outstanding ones have come out this year." The white mouse-like principal nodded, praising her efforts.
"Wait, look over there—"
The female teacher suddenly pointed at the left screen, where a slightly battered Yukino was limping forward.
"She's injured. Who is that?"
"This child." The principal thought for a moment, then explained, "She and the sword-wielding girl are both clones of the same person."
"The same person?" The female teacher blinked.
"It's her. I remember now." The male teacher beside her spoke gravely. "Two months ago, in a murder case, a girl physically blocked a rampaging thug and saved two children. She took over thirty stab wounds and nearly died. Later, when the police sent her to the hospital, her body had already healed itself—that's how they found out she had a healing-related Quirk. If I'm not mistaken, this girl is the one who appeared in the news two months ago."
The other teachers stared at the girl in shock.
"I never thought this child had such a past. Only a character willing to sacrifice herself to save others deserves the title of hero." All Might wiped cold sweat from his brow. "If I hadn't seen her file, I'd have thought she was a girl."
"Wait—so this guy is a boy?" The young female teacher's eyes went wide in shock.
"That's right. This child's Quirk can create female clones."
"Oh... oh no. I thought the registered info was wrong, so I changed it to female without permission." The teacher covered her mouth in panic. An awkward silence fell over the room.
"Forget it. What comes next is where their true value is tested." After half a minute of silence, a teacher pressed the red button beside him.
Rumble!
The next moment, the ground seemed to shake. A colossal Fake Enemy, dozens of stories tall, slowly emerged from rolling dust and smoke.
Zero Pointer.
"This... is way too big?"
Even though he'd mentally prepared himself, seeing such a giant appear before his eyes still left Su Lin dumbfounded.
It was like Godzilla had appeared in the city. Its massive mechanical arm grabbed a building, squeezed lightly, and several floors crumbled to dust. Heavy boulders rained down, slamming into the ground—easily enough to flatten a person into paste.
The machine paused for a few seconds, then suddenly punched the ground. A terrifying shockwave, carrying thick clouds of dust, surged in all directions.
"Run! Get out of here! There's no way we can beat that thing!"
"Damn it, we have to escape!"
The examinees abandoned all other concerns, deciding to avoid this pointless target.
Izuku Midoriya fell to the ground in terror, tears streaming from his eyes.
Further away, Ochaco Uraraka was pinned under a collapsed building, her legs trapped as she struggled in pain.
"Only two minutes left."
Mike's voice echoed down to the various training grounds.
"This... is about to end."
Su Lin watched Izuku Midoriya, curious if he'd charge in like in the original story to save the girl pinned underneath.
Sure enough, the next second, while everyone else was busy fleeing, that unremarkable figure dashed forward and, under the immense power of One For All, shot into the sky.
"Smash!"
A roar erupted in his heart.
BOOM!
The robot's head shattered under the staggering force, and its massive body toppled to the ground. Due to One For All's backlash, both of Midoriya's legs and his right arm were wrecked too.
He fell from the sky.
Whether it was the butterfly effect or not, Ochaco Uraraka was a bit farther away, and it was clearly too late to save him now.
Reluctantly, Su Lin waved a gust of wind upward, slowing Midoriya's descent.
Just as he was about to hit the ground, Su Lin leaped up and caught him in one go.
Then he landed.
Drop.
Midoriya was tossed to the ground.
PS: I should have posted earlier, but I've been running a high fever the past couple of days—dizzy and out of it. This is probably the first time in three years I've had a fever this bad. (:∠)
Chapter 8: Quirk Apprehension Test
As the exam's end signal rang out, poor Izuku Midoriya finally passed out in utter despair.
Amid the murmurs of the crowd, an old woman's voice drifted over from nearby: "Alright, everyone worked hard... good work, good work!"
She slowly fished out a few colorful candies from her pocket and handed them to a student: "Here, have some gummy candy."
"Thanks..." the boy said sheepishly, taking them.
"Here, you too." The old woman smiled and moved on to the next person.
The blonde-haired Yuga Aoyama pointed at the elderly woman gracefully and introduced her with confidence: "That lady is the pillar of U.A."
Amid everyone's curious gazes, the old woman approached Izuku Midoriya: "Oh my, to get hurt this badly by your own Quirk."
After saying that, her lips suddenly stretched out, extending at a slow pace, and with a biu, she kissed Midoriya on the head.
"Huh?" The whole scene froze.
"What's going on?"
"She's U.A. High School's nurse, the youthful heroine Recovery Girl. Her Quirk is the hyperactivation of healing abilities. The reason U.A. dares to hold such a reckless entrance exam is largely because of her presence."
As the explanation went on, Midoriya's twisted legs and arms gradually mended, and the injuries from One For All's backlash quickly vanished.
"Youthful heroine, huh?"
Looking at the white-haired old woman, the X-haired guy listening nearby twitched the corner of his mouth.
"Hurry up, are there any other injured kids?"
After healing Midoriya, the old woman's gaze drifted around, and then she spotted Yukino leaning against a wall in the distance.
"Oh my, there's a pretty little girl over there."
The old woman's lips smacked together, and she walked toward her with an eager look.
"Uh, no, I'm fine. No injuries." Yukino waved her hands frantically in fright.
"It's fine, it's fine—just have a little taste... biu!"
The entrance exam ended on schedule. A week later, Su Lin received his acceptance letter as expected, entering U.A. with a practical score of 65 and a special rescue score of 15, ranking first overall.
As for Izuku Midoriya, thanks to saving Ochaco Uraraka, he got 60 special rescue points.
They were both placed in U.A.'s Class A.
The first day of school arrived in the blink of an eye. That morning, Su Lin walked into the classroom with his usual calm.
"Huh, looks like everyone's here. Still twenty."
Su Lin roughly counted the seats to confirm the number.
But then he froze on the spot.
"Is one missing?"
In the original story, there were twenty people. With the same number now, that meant he had replaced one student—meaning that person had forever lost the chance to enter Class A, or even U.A. itself.
That was basically ruining someone's future.
"This is..." Seeing Su Lin, who appeared before everyone as a boy, Izuku Midoriya, sitting in his seat, was a bit stunned.
He had even gone out of his way to ask All Might how that girl training every day at Seaside Park was doing, only to learn that she had also gotten into U.A. and been placed in the same class as him.
But now... the last one to show up turned out to be a boy.
"Hey, are you done yet?"
Just as the class was buzzing with chatter, a deeply listless voice suddenly came from behind Su Lin—from outside the door.
"?"
Su Lin turned to look and found a guy curled up in a sleeping bag, looking like a yellow caterpillar, lying on the floor.
"Finally quiet. Time's limited, and you all seriously lack rationality." With droopy eyelids and a half-asleep look, he slowly got up, crawled out of the sleeping bag, and shifted his gaze to the whole class. "I'm your Homeroom Teacher, Shota Aizawa. Nice to meet you."
"Homeroom Teacher?" The students were stunned.
"No time to waste. Put these on and head to the field." Mr. Aizawa pulled a gym uniform from his sleeping bag and left the building first.
Everyone exchanged glances, but they had no choice but to follow the teacher's orders and head to the field.
"Su Lin-chan, let's go too."
In the brief silence, Torhu Hagakure walked up, shook Su Lin's shoulder, and called out in a familiar tone.
"Huh, the nickname changed?"
It seemed Hagakure really saw Su Lin as a close friend.
But speaking of which, in this world, all kinds of Quirk users looked bizarre—didn't they feel weirded out when they got married? Take Fumikage Tokoyami, for example. That was clearly a Crow's head, right? With that long, sharp beak, when he kissed his wife, wouldn't he just stab her to death?
Or Hagakure—even a hug felt like hugging air, didn't it? Did you have to imagine her appearance?
These were still the normal ones. What about slime monsters, tentacle monsters, or all kinds of random animals—seals, snails? Would it really be okay to marry a wife or husband like that?
"Isn't that a bit too intense?" That was a question Su Lin pondered.
Pulled along by Hagakure to the field, the students soon stood neatly in front of Mr. Aizawa.
"First up is the Quirk Aptitude Test."
