"Knock, knock, knock!"
Ji Li had just finished showering, and after the fatigue returned, he was preparing to sleep.
Just then, an urgent sound came from outside the door.
Ji Li, with a troubled expression, tidied his scattered hair, sighed, and walked towards the door with a cigarette in his mouth.
Upon opening the door, Yu Guo's gaunt face appeared. His expression above was strange and complicated, making it difficult for Ji Li to fathom at first.
"What's wrong?"
Ji Li could vaguely sense that Yu Guo's situation was unusual.
Yu Guo pursed his lips, first glancing left and right in the hallway. Then, without waiting for Ji Li's permission, he squeezed into the room.
"Come quickly and see!"
He plopped down on Ji Li's bed and frantically pulled out his streaming phone.
The livestream had been permanently banned, which pained Yu Guo, but the most important matter now wasn't the previous livestream.
It was the other ghost that appeared during the stream!
Ji Li looked bewildered. He sat down next to Yu Guo and stared at the phone screen suspiciously, watching the playback.
Gradually, his expression grew more and more solemn.
He saw the Headless Ghost from room 210 of the hotel, and also the Cloaked Ghost floating outside the hotel window, seemingly communicating with it!
Ji Li exhaled a cloud of smoke, his face ashen, and remained silent.
He had long suspected that, up to this point, the main task for all staff, including himself, was still to guide ghosts.
As for the second duty assigned by the hotel: supervising ghosts.
This task currently only involved patrolling the residents daily and ordering them to behave themselves, and that was all.
After the Mirror Ghost in Coffin arrived, he felt that all the residents on the second floor were too quiet.
This quiet was clearly not a good thing.
Now, he had discovered another ghost outside the hotel making contact with a resident.
So…
"After you saw this, what did the Headless Ghost do?" Ji Li turned and asked.
Yu Guo scratched his head, "At first, I didn't notice the Cloaked Ghost. By the time I saw it in the playback, the ghost outside had already disappeared.
The Headless Ghost, as if guilty, left the hallway and returned to its room."
Ji Li smoked his cigarette with a troubled expression, and after a long while, he threw the butt on the ground and stomped it out.
He quickly took Yu Guo to the second floor. He looked at the long corridor, now covered by the morning sun, and felt the unique dark aura of the place.
A moment later, he declared loudly, "I, Ji Li, am using my authority as Acting Manager to request a reassignment of the residents' rooms."
As soon as he spoke, a sweet female voice from the hotel's will responded.
"Hello, Mr. Ji Li. This falls under your duty to supervise residents, and it is your rightful authority. Please state your instructions."
Ji Li nodded. He had no prior experience dealing with the current situation.
Based on what had just happened, the reason the Cloaked Ghost approached the Headless Ghost was likely because its room was by the window, closest to the outside.
As a living person, he didn't know how to restrict this kind of internal and external collusion, but he could only do what he could.
"The new Peeping Ghost doesn't need to move; it remains in 201.
The Mirror Ghost in Coffin also doesn't need to move; it stays in 203.
You will move the Wrist-Cutting Ghost from 205 to 204, and the Headless Ghost from 210 to 202."
"Reasonable allocation. Thank you for your suggestion, Mr. Ji Li."
The female voice offered no objection. After saying this, the only two ghosts that needed to move suddenly appeared in the hallway!
It was Yu Guo's first time truly seeing the ghosts in the hotel, and he watched with wide eyes.
The Headless Ghost from 210 appeared to be a young boy, wearing a floral shirt and playing with a glass marble in his hand.
The Wrist-Cutting Ghost from 205 was much uglier, as if all the blood had been drained from its body, resembling a mummy.
Just as it emerged from 205, it grabbed a knife and forcefully plunged it into its left wrist, dripping bright red blood onto the dark carpet.
Ji Li frowned, "Take your blood with you to 204!"
After the two ghosts had finished moving, Ji Li led Yu Guo to the depths of the second floor and stopped at a particular window.
"The Cloaked Ghost was right here at this spot," Yu Guo pointed to a spot outside the window.
Ji Li nodded. By now, he could feel that the ghost residents had progressed from initial restlessness to planning and collusion.
However, due to the ambiguity of his duty to supervise ghosts, he still didn't know how to avoid or handle this.
After thinking for a long time, Ji Li could only turn to the hotel's will for help.
"Hotel, did you hear what the Cloaked Ghost and the Headless Ghost were discussing?"
"I apologize, Mr. Ji Li, but I cannot monitor any movements outside the hotel."
Ji Li hadn't expected a response from the female voice, but her words instead made his eyes light up.
The female voice's statement seemed to hold a deeper meaning.
If it couldn't perceive what was happening outside the window, did that mean it could perceive what was happening inside?
"Then, what did the Headless Ghost inside the window say?"
The female voice replied without any hesitation, "It said nothing, it did nothing."
This answer surprised Ji Li somewhat. He had initially thought the Headless Ghost's unusual behavior was a coordinated effort with the Cloaked Ghost.
The ultimate goal, of course, was to break free from the hotel's constraints.
But now, it seemed the Cloaked Ghost from outside was actively summoning it.
The Headless Ghost was passively accepting everything, and appeared hesitant about whatever the Cloaked Ghost had said.
Perhaps it hadn't made up its mind, or perhaps it was refusing.
Ji Li couldn't help but chuckle at this thought, startling Yu Guo beside him.
"What's wrong?"
"No, it's just that I find it quite amusing. Ghosts scheming against each other, I never expected that."
Yu Guo also chuckled at this, saying casually, "Yeah, maybe ghosts don't just scheme against each other; perhaps they might even fight."
Ji Li nodded and waved his hand dismissively, preparing to return to his room.
"Hotel, seal off the second-floor windows completely, ensure absolute isolation!"
"Understood, Mr. Ji Li."
For three days, Ji Li had been busy organizing new hotel rule documentation to be distributed to new staff members.
Meanwhile, Yu Guo was constantly researching ways to unblock the livestream.
Fang Shenyan had been absent for a long time; no one knew what had happened to him.
It wasn't until 1 PM on the afternoon of October 26th that Ji Li, carrying three new documents, stepped out of his room.
He took out the hotel-issued phone and tapped three times on the wall.
Shortly after, Fang Shenyan and Yu Guo emerged from their respective rooms.
As the two approached, Ji Li said softly, "Let's go. Let's see if there will be any unusual newcomers this time."
Fang Shenyan was dressed in his usual mature style, his slightly graying hair neatly combed at the temples. He strode forward, walking alongside the other two.
"The Peeping Ghost. Something's off. For the past three days, every midnight, it's been lurking outside my door, peeping at me through the peephole."
