Background / History
Zhou En is a university student and free-combat enthusiast whose stated ambition is to become the world free-combat champion. He joins the newly established World Combat Club after discovering it at school. 1
After an electrical incident leaves blue currents around him, Zhou En develops extraordinary physical potential: his muscles respond to training at a terrifying pace. Initially unaware of the change, he is humiliated by World Combat Club expert Yue Hua and becomes a target of ridicule on the university Tieba forum. His impulsive public rematch challenge leads to an upset victory over Yue Hua and an invitation from head coach Liu Yu. 1 2 4
Zhou En joins the World Combat Club, wins a thousand silver dollars from Yue Hua, and begins formal training. His unusual strength becomes obvious when he bench presses a 60-jin barbell despite being a beginner, attracting both recognition and hostility from club members such as Li Hui. 5 9 10
Determined to defeat Li Hui and become an official team member, Zhou En trains for two and a half months under Liu Yu’s plan. Su Lin teaches him the Sun Character Consecutive Fist, but his reliance on this overwhelmingly offensive technique leaves him vulnerable when surrounded. He nevertheless fights through Li Hui’s gang to rescue Liu Yu, then later defeats Li Hui’s thirty lackeys after being expelled. 24 26 28
His competitive reputation grows through the East District School team. He defeats opponents such as Lin Gu, Huo Yuming, Dai Zhicheng, Black Superman, Li Jiu, and Liu Wu despite repeatedly facing fighters ranked above his own realm. 72 75 93 119 230 233
In Chengdu, Zhou En becomes involved with the Three Great Families through conflicts with Li Wuji, the Li family, and the Wang family. He temporarily enters the Li family, where he teaches younger members while concealing his actual strength. His repeated clashes with Li family fighters lead him to develop and perfect his Eternal Spring Eight Trigrams Fist. 130 131 134 150 151
After suffering severe setbacks in his conflict with the Li family, Zhou En joins the Liu family under a restrictive contract while refusing to use his parents as collateral. He later enters the national competition despite injuries and confronts Li Jiu, the enemy who had previously crippled his martial arts. 196 229
Personality
Zhou En is ambitious and intensely competitive. His desire to become world champion motivates him to seek out the World Combat Club, endure harsh training, and continue entering matches while injured. 1 24 229
He is frequently impulsive, especially when mocked or when people close to him are threatened. He accepts Yue Hua’s challenge to save face, attacks Li Wuji after learning of Wang Yuling’s engagement, and repeatedly confronts powerful members of the Three Great Families despite the danger. 2 123 166
Despite his bravado, Zhou En is protective and loyal. He risks himself to rescue Liu Yu and Zhang Li, seeks treatment for Zhang Li’s scars, and refuses to involve his parents in the Liu family’s contract negotiations. 26 106 145 196
