Hao Ren and the others had arrived at just the right time. The problem with the Demon King's City's "Firstborn remains," the core of its power system, had only occurred an hour ago. But in the eyes of the personnel managing the power furnace, the core's condition wasn't serious. It was merely releasing some weak, harmless signals, and those signals hadn't triggered any magical fluctuations within a hundred-mile radius. Thus, after detecting them, the power furnace technicians had only reported them to their superior technical director, without triggering any higher-level alarm.
If Hao Ren and the others hadn't seen the phantom of the Demon King's City floating in the atmosphere when they came down from the sky, nobody would have thought that something was wrong deep within the city, much less connected the phenomenon to that energy core.
The circular hall housing the energy furnace was as brightly lit as ever, and the power core was roaring away. In the center of the energy extractor, which consisted of multiple concentric circles, the blood-red "seed" was emitting rhythmic light, pulsing faintly as the extractor rotated. The technicians stood in a circle around the platform, cautiously observing this massive device that even its creator wouldn't dare claim to fully understand, recording the strange readings that had recently appeared.
Elizabeth pulled out a square alchemical device from who knew where and held it up, sweeping it around the energy core. The alchemical device continuously emitted static noises that sounded like radio interference. The little girl looked extremely professional. "There's interference. There really is interference."
Hao Ren poked the Data Terminal on his shoulder. "Can you detect anything?"
"This thing is emitting electromagnetic waves, somewhat like brain-wave activity." The Data Terminal projected a blue beam of light at the red sphere in the center
