The white light that had streaked in from the distant depths of space easily tore apart the outer defensive barrier of the Tower of Stars, leaving behind only a blasted-in-half connecting platform and a vast expanse of scattered rubble. Just minutes ago, this barrier had seemed impregnable—it was arguably the strongest shield on the Demon Hunter defensive line. The warriors of the Elder Council had attacked it relentlessly for a long time without managing to weaken its energy, yet before that white light, it had been no more substantial than paper.
The scene of the barrier's destruction was also reflected in the eyes of the defenders in other areas. For an instant, no one could believe that the shield had been breached so easily. Then Master Tutanin's roar snapped the warriors back to their senses: "Hold them back!!"
The Elder Council's initial target had been the Tower of Stars' barrier. They had tried to break the deadlock, get outside, and cut off the Ice Fortress's support to Colperse. Every step of this attack had been designed for that purpose. They had attacked the command center and the tower platform at the same time to divert the defenders' attention and conceal their special weapon, all so they could wait for this moment.
At the instant the Tower of Stars' gates were blasted open, nearly half of the defenders had been scattered across other parts of the defensive line!
Tutanin's roar awakened the warriors who had been momentarily stunned. The palace guards immediately charged toward the place where the barrier had been blasted open, trying to stop the Elder Council's forces. The platform guards, who had suffered heavy losses beneath the white light, also quickly regrouped, and the surviving warriors desperately rushed toward the enormous breach at the top of the tower.
