The silver-white crossbow bolts, imbued with astonishing magic, crisscrossed the air in bright lines. Wherever they passed, whether it was a shield formed by a defensive spell or a wall that had been summoned, everything seemed to be made of paper and was pierced and shattered in the blink of an eye. Various offensive spells rapidly released through the Runes of Leta followed the paths opened by the bolts, pouring in as though they cost nothing and destroying layer after layer of the defenses the witches had set up throughout the cemetery. As a group struggling to survive in this dark age, the witches naturally would not leave their lair undefended. In fact, they had established countless defensive measures here. The fallen gravestones and twisted dead trees were all products filled with magic. When the Demon Hunters attacked, they immediately shifted and assembled themselves into layer after layer of defensive lines. To the Demon Hunters, however, these things could delay them for only a moment.
After their initial panic and fear, the witches finally managed to calm down. Madam Mary and Heiserana had clearly become the group's pillars, and only their shouted orders had prevented the other witches from doing anything foolish in their terror. Taking cover in the cemetery's magical fog, the group dodged about in a sorry state and gradually retreated to a narrow patch of open ground in the cemetery's southwest corner. The witch Helen chanted a spell, and the gravestones around the clearing immediately began to shake with a thunderous rumble. They then transformed into black stone guardians covered in moss. These heavy guardians formed another defensive line, blocking the Demon Hunters' long-range bombardment.
"Bang—boom!"
Almost as soon as the stone guardians rose to their feet, a dazzling silver-white fireball traced a parabola through the air
