Its ellipsoidal shell was covered with auxiliary facilities of all kinds, some old and some new, each built in a different style. Countless tiny points of light shuttled ceaselessly between those facilities, like a swarm of bees dancing around a hive.
After Nolan enlarged the image, Hao Ren realized that the "swarm" was actually made up of all kinds of spacecraft. They looked especially tiny beside the Space Station, which gave him a clear idea of the size of that "silver giant egg."
Hao Ren naturally thought of the information they had seen on the reliefs in the ruined city. At the final moment, when the Great Cataclysm swept across the planet, humanity had built a huge spaceship and launched less than a tenth of the population, along with vast amounts of resources, into space. The spaceship depicted in that scene looked like a giant egg. Though some details differed, the discrepancy could easily be explained by thousands of years of continuous renovation and expansion.
