"Humanity" was dead.
By Hao Ren's definition of humanity, the humans on this planet had actually gone extinct at least a thousand years ago. The moment they lost the ability to reproduce, lost the spark of intelligence, and could only be stored in cultivation containers like clumps of cell samples, they had already become extinct as a species.
But to the stubborn Main Brain and the entire society of the Executors, humanity had died today.
In the cylindrical cultivation container, various electrodes and tubes carrying nutrients slowly withdrew from the liquid under the Main Brain's control. Once the writhing masses of flesh lost the machines sustaining them, they immediately began trembling violently. In moments, cracks of all sizes appeared across their surfaces, while filthy red liquid and bubbles gushed out from between the masses of flesh. The originally pale-pink nutrient solution turned blood-red in the blink of an eye.
Hao Ren could not say whether these masses of flesh could still be considered a complete organism—because nearly every cell inside them was entirely different. Fatal mutations caused these cells to produce completely new genetic sequences after every division. From a biological perspective, these cells should have been incapable of surviving until now.
For countless years, the Main Brain had forcibly combined them and maintained their activity through technological means. The entire life-support system had to filter out the vast quantities of toxic substances produced by these masses of flesh every day, or all the cells would have been killed by their own metabolic waste.
But today, this endless suffering could finally come to an end.
