It was clearly pointless to argue with fairies—they would never realize that you were arguing with them in the first place, nor understand what it meant to take something seriously...
So Hao Ren and the others decisively gave up pressing her about how she could have forgotten such important information, and instead asked more detailed questions about the "Nightmare Lair" the fairy knew about.
Of course, staying in the ventilation ducts near the core area for too long would not have been wise, so they asked their questions while following the fairy toward the passage leading deeper underground.
Just as the fairy had said earlier, she did not actually know much about the Nightmare Lair.
Only a small portion of the fairies on Amantir had survived. Even among those survivors, their range of activity was extremely limited—for the sake of survival, they had been forced to merge with Earth's core and construct a powerful shielding layer that completely isolated them from the outside world. This had ensured their safety in one sense, but it had also effectively locked every fairy inside an utterly sealed cage.
The fairies' only normal means of sensing the outside world were the crystals buried throughout Amantir. Most of these crystals had either been contaminated by the power of the Lord of Madness or destroyed by the corrupted monsters for use as energy and resources. Fewer than one in ten remained usable, and even with those, the fairies did not dare activate the information channels too openly. Normally, they could only make minimal use of the narrow bandwidth produced when the crystals resonated spontaneously, using it to gather intelligence from the "upper" regions. Three or four crystal networks happened to lie near the Amantir Crystal and the Nightmare Lair, and that was the fairies' only source
