Almost as soon as the attack began, a strange, low rumble suddenly echoed throughout the Nightmare Lair—it sounded as if countless tons of seawater were surging and crashing against the thick flesh walls outside. The rumbling came from every direction, growing louder and louder.
Hao Ren then saw that the flesh walls really had begun to churn. Bulge after bulge squeezed out from between the layers of connective tissue and thick hide. As they emerged, they rapidly changed shape, gradually transforming into hideous Mutated Monsters.
These newly born monsters had clear targets. The instant they appeared, they charged toward the intruders in the lair with shrill roars. Waiting for them was the rapid-fire barrage of the Autonomous Mechanical Units and Guard Drones.
Hao Ren released the "guards" he had prepared long ago in his personal space, sending these swift units—extremely skilled at close-quarters rapid-response combat—to deal with the Mutated Monsters. The latter were clearly cannon fodder that had only just split off from the flesh. There was no need to waste time on monsters that had no combat ability beyond their numbers.
