The burning humanoids converged from all directions, leaving behind a string of smoldering footprints trailing black smoke. The air around them rapidly grew hotter, and even the plants several meters away withered and shriveled at a visible rate.
After receiving Nolan's report on these monsters, this was the first time Hao Ren had seen these suddenly emerged "unknown life-forms" with his own eyes.
They were not much different in build from ordinary humans, with clearly defined limbs and torsos. Yet aside from the layer of constantly burning flames, their insides were completely empty, as though an invisible person had draped a cloak of fire over their body. However, the scans from the Data Terminal showed that there was no invisible person inside. The flames really were hollow.
"Empty humanoids..." Seeing the monsters, Hao Ren wore a thoughtful expression, as though what he was witnessing had once again confirmed some bold conjecture. Beside him, Lia suddenly tightened her grip on her Iron Staff, looking nervous. "What are these monsters?"
Miss Lia, the great scholar, mage, and martial arts master, swore to the heavens that she had never seen such bizarre monsters in all those piles of books!
"Monsters that suddenly drilled out of the ground? Their target is probably to destroy the world," Hao Ren said quickly. "The ones in front of us are probably just stragglers wandering around the outskirts. The rest have probably gone to attack White Maple City."
"How do you know that?" Lia first looked at Hao Ren in surprise, but soon the Flame Monsters rushing toward her made her forget about such trivial questions. "Whoa—they're coming!"
