Background and History

Ma Ning is the daughter of Su Qingwan and Ma Jiang, and Jiang Fan’s cousin; the two address each other as brother and sister. When Jiang Fan came to stay with her family in Jiang City’s Outer City, she welcomed him and wanted him to remain with them. The family’s limited finances initially kept her from obtaining a Level 1 gene serum despite her early awakening and strong talent 14 672 715.

While attending Jiang City No. 1 High School, Ma Ning offered Jiang Fan a school-awarded tonic that she needed for her own training. He declined and later supplied her with a gene serum and blood-replenishing potions. After becoming a Level 1 Martial Artist, she set her sights on entering one of Huaxia’s top martial arts universities 50 137.

Ma Ning enrolled at Ninth Martial Arts University. Seeking the strength to help Jiang Fan and protect her family, she repeatedly hunted exotic beasts in its Secret Realm. After she stayed behind to protect her injured friend Yu Ling’er, a Level 4 Fire Cloud Rhinoceros nearly killed her; Jiang Fan arrived and saved her 325 327 328.

After graduation, Ma Ning joined the military. Three years into Jiang Fan’s absence, she stopped contacting home while serving at the Ten Thousand Beasts Border Defense Great Wall. As a colonel, she and her troops became trapped in Black Wind Valley, unable to contact the outside world. Jiang Fan found and rescued them 772 774 775 778 779.

Ma Ning is described as fair-faced and pretty. Her Secret Realm training sometimes leaves her clothes torn and her body injured 672 325.

Personality

Ma Ning is affectionate toward Jiang Fan and determined to follow his example. She trains despite her friends’ warnings, believing dangerous encounters will sharpen her combat awareness. When the Fire Cloud Rhinoceros catches her group, she chooses to hold it off so her friends can escape 325 327 330.

As a colonel, she takes responsibility for her trapped troops even after losing hope of escape. Thoughts of seeing Jiang Fan again help her regain her resolve. She trusts him deeply when he arrives in Black Wind Valley 775 779.
